Question about 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer Ext

2 Answers

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer EXT with the 5.3L V8. The vehicle stopped running while driving on the highway. It acted like it was running out of gas. Stopped and tried to restart it, and it won't start. It has an automatic transmission. All fluid levels are ok. No codes are appearing on the ODBII scanner. When I turn the ignition on to start, nothing happens. The starter does not turn. The battery is ok. It has strong headlights. Also the button to shift the automatic transmission seems locked. Could this be a fuse or relay problem?

The tranny seems to be locked in park. I was testing to see if I could get it to neutral encase it needed to be towed. Which would be the most likely fuse?

  • mtkibler Jul 26, 2009

Checked all my fuses and they looked ok. The scanner now comes back with a U1016 code. Could it be a parking / neutral safety switch? Auto zone doesn.t have the repair guide for the 2004 trailblazer or envoy. Is there someplace else to get schematics?

Hi,
If you plan on having the vehicle for a long time and do repairs yourself it is always the best option to pick up the service manual. It has the steps for any repair on the entire vehicle. It is what the dealer mechanics use. Because your vehicle is newer its still about 130$ on ebay for your manual as you can see here. Now I have a few questions about the problem so I can better assist you do any lights flash at all on the dash? Also have you checked the starter yourself with a multimeter? Check to see if ur getting 12v at solenoid when cranking. Make sure you have constant 12v at starter as well. It sounds like possibly the ignition switch. There are a lot of Technical service bulletins on these vehicles. You can view those here.

Also there is a bulletin with this reference number #02-08-64-017
faulty ignition switches. That cause your exact problem, also causing it to stay in park. Only troubleshooting the problem with multimeter will tell you for sure but it looks like these are pretty good places to start. If you need further assistance or have any other questions please let me know.
Thank you,
Lee

This could be a fuse or relay. You can test them with ohmmeter. The tranny pay not be registered in park causing starter not to turn over,

If it is locked in park, then it is either the cable adjustment or the sensor that reads when brake when applied is bad. The relay would be in this wiring. You can go to autozone.com and register for free. Then you will have a full complete online repair manual for free.

2004 chevy trailblazer ext. Clicking noise coming from right rear panel in car at start up. It clicks like 8 times and stops, then 8 times and stops. It will do this several times then stop completely....

Did you recently replace or disconnect the battery? Common problem is for the airflow actuators to go out and make that clicking sound in the rear when the battery is changed or disconnected.

Fan cluth or fan assembly

I have a 2004 trailblazer and it keeps over heating at stop lights or while driving slow. I have replaced the thermostat and water pump, but this issue still shows up. It is fine while driving down the highway at 55-65 mph. I have also cleaned the radiator and blew through the fins to clean out the dirt and bugs. Not sure if clutch is operating correctly. How can one tell if it is and are these electric? I know there are approx 5 wires running to the front of the clutch, but not sure if this gets a voltage signal to engage the clutch fan. Any ideas?
