Sounds like your belt tensioner or idle pull bearing froze up on it. Take belt off and check those components. Hope this helps

If the belt is not tense enough it will squeal, so make sure it's tight enough. Otherwise you can use a stethoscope or long screwdriver up to your ear to isolate the source of the noise.

SOURCE: serpintine belt was replace as

With the belt off, try to spin each pulley that spins and see if there is any roughness or flat spots on the bearings that you can detect with your hands.

Usually, the bearings on Alternators or idler pulleys go bad before the a/c because the a/c should have oil in it. However, it could be any of the pulleys that the belt spins on.

It can be a process of elimination of changing parts until the sound goes away, if you can't detect it under free spinning conditions with the belt off.

I have a mazda millenia s millennium edition. One day I was driving and I heard a loud crack or pop. My car drove for a little longer then completely cut off and would stall trying to start. Long story...

Do you mean the timing belt or the serpentine drive belt that does your alternator, aircon pulley etc. If it is the timing belt then you have big trouble because it almost always results in engine damage. If its the second then its taken several parts with it and you need a knowledgeable person to assess the damage. Do not attempt to turn the engine over again until a full check is done. Go to bing or google images, type in your vehicle model, year etc and timing belt and see what pics pop up. It may give you some idea.

There are 3 belts on the truck (1994 V6, 4wd). The belt that goes around the alternator was not spinning and there was a loud screeching noise. I cut the alternator belt to see what the truck would do with...

The pulleys may be out of alignment due to a bent or misinstalled alternator bracket. the alternator itself may be pulling so much current that the belt is slipping on its pulley. (might be why the other alternator failed. Check the battery voltage with everything turned off and see if you have a parasitic battery drain.) The bearing for the idler pulley (if equipped) could be failing.

Electricall problem w/2002 V6 mazda tribute

When that light comes on, it is indicating charging system problem which could mean alternator not charging for one reason or another like loose belt, faulty alternator, or yes, bad battery or connection at battery, for example. First & easiest thing to do is check all your connections to battery, which you've probably done, and make sure they're tight & clean. Make sure belt driving alternator is good & tight, and in good shape. Now boost the vehicle to get it going & test voltage at battery, after you take cables off. My guess is in your case, the voltage will begin to go down, indicating a bad alternator, that will need to be replaced.

Loud Sqeaul/screech from engine upon start up

could be your alternator. at start up. alternator usually has a big load because you just use your starter. it would recharge the battery and after a while the battery would be fully charge, the squealing noise will be gone.

check also all the belts if they are individual belts. use some belt dressings to eliminate the noise. sometimes the belt are just worn out and it would also make these noises.

tnx 4 using fixya,
