The new switch goes in, the reverse of how you took the old one out. The picture should show you the location. Take wiring connector loose, use proper size wrench or socket to remove.

Typically how long does an oil pressure switch last for a 2000 chevy malibu

Oil pressure switches have about the same life expectancy on all vehicles (about 5 yrs). They are screwed into an oil passage. When the engine is under pressure, oil pushes against a diaphragm (or flexible partition) inside the switch. As long as the oil is pushing against the diaphragm, it prevents the metal electrical contact on it from making contact with its inner base, which would complete the circuit to the oil light. When the diaphragm leaks, oil seeps through the outer housing of the switch. As the oil seeps through, it doesn't maintain the pressure required to keep the light out (especially at idle), causing the light to sometimes flicker. It will also create oil leaks.

Does a 2004 Malibu have afuel cutoff switch and where is it

The only "cut off" switch would be your oil pressure sending unit. It's a safety feature in case your car was in roll over or accident that fuel pump shuts off when oil pressure drops.

No fuel in motor. will not start

when you turn the ignition key to the on position you will hear the fuel pump run for 5 seconds.
if not heard replace the oil pressure switch for the third wire on that sensor runs the fuel pump the first 5 seconds to start the engine. once pressure is operating at normal conditions the relay takes over on the pump to run

Alight comes on that looks like a pail with a spout on a 2003 malibu with a 3100 engine it gones off at about 2700 rpms

it sounds like your oil pressure light. ( light illuminates red) I would check the oil level in the motor, if o.k. check oil pressure with mechanical gauge at sending unit located on engine. If oil pressure above 18 p.s.i. at idle, suspect faulty sending switch. If pressure low, possible oil pump/regulator, cracked pick-up tube, bad engine bearings.
