Question about Kia Rio

Open Question

Purchased 2010 Kia Rio new. In May 2016, with 80,000 miles. Kia won't cover warranty, we had a repair stop rebuild engine. Then oxygen sensor needed replaced. Did that and still have problems.

We have changed spark plugs and put new coils on. Towed it back to engine shop and one of the new coils had a crack, they replaced that and on the way home, check engine on and it stalled and running rough. What are we missing. Is it time to just get rid of it?

SOURCE: 1996 s10 2.2 engine starts but idles rough and will not rev up.

Hi! You must be frustrated by now! your code is marking that the O2 sensor is bad in bank 1. Did you replace the O2 sensor that is located  before the catalytic converter?  The S10 has an O2 sensor specially made for that cat. its about 30$ That would explain for your blackened spark plugs; your pc on the car is asking for more fuel. GOOD LUCK!!

SOURCE: 2000 kia sephia constant engine stalling!!!

try this procedure and let me know if it cures the problem.

Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake.

SOURCE: Check engine light flashes sometimes and runs rough

A flashing check engine light is a critical indicator. That usually means that something went wrong that will damage the emission control system... and that is usually an ignition issue. First off, the OEM plug your car calls for is an NGK irridium... NOT BOSCH and not anything with more than 1 prong. Those NGKs are like 2 bucks and they are the proper plug. Make sure you have these plugs and make sure they are gapped to .028. Next, my suggestion is put all the new stuff on again. Drive it to autozone and have them delete all the codes. Drive it around until the check engine light comes on again, then immediately go back and read the codes. The ECU is smart enough to know which cylinder is misfiring. On these cars, I think they have three banks of two... meaning one "coil" inside the coil pack operates two of the cylinders. So if you get multiple misfires, it's the coil. If you get one misfire it's probably an individual plug wire or plug. Good luck.

SOURCE: 2000 kia sportage mass air flow sensor

The mass air flow meter is fitted to the air intake pipe Its quite a simple task to change it on your own.Has for the catalytic converter all you will have to do is give the car a realy hard reving when going through the gears and drive it hard for a few miles. That will clear your cat for you.Dont listen to the shop they are out to rip you off.Good luck.Any problems you can contact me via pippall7@hotmail.co.uk.

Engine light on

Could be a oxygen sensor?Do you have a warranty? If so they will check and fix for free.If no warranty, you can go to Autozone and they will scan your vehicle for free and tell you why that check engine light means, the owner's manual tells you to go see dealer.

I have a 2007 Kia Rio LX, 4 cylinder with 62,000 miles. the check engine came on for the first time, since I bought the car.

Just have it hooked up to a code reader it may be just a vaccum leak or an oxygen sensor code stored on the engine computer.

I have a 2001 kia rio, check engine light came on. stopped at Auto Zone an they tested it. Their machine said it was CODE P1166. what is this part we need?

1166 - AF sensor 1 heater circuit malfunction

Your top O2 sensor (the LAF sensor) may be unplugged or the wire may be damaged, or it may be dead.

SIR, 2002 KIA RIO CINCO MISSING REAL BAD

Odds are, the O2 sensor is just detecting an imbalance in the Air/Fuel ratio, therfor causing your O2 sensor code.

Start by changing your spark plug wires, if it hasn't been done in a while.
