about 6 yrs old or 80/100.000 kms depending on the climate ,north where its wet and cold then 100.000 if in the south in a dry hot climate then 80.000 ,is the official sort of mileage but i have taken belts off cars and they are still like new and the newer the vehicle then the better the material the belt seems to be made of so i would just check it every 10.000 kms and look for cracking at the base of the teeth and if no cracking visable then leave it alone

Ok, i have a 2005 chevy aveo and i ould like to

NOW. These cars are notorious for timing belts snapping and GM has advised to replace at 60K. I have this car and it has an interference engine, meaning that if the belt snaps there is a good chance the engine's pistons will bend the intake/exhaust valves, meaning you would have to have the engine rebuilt if this happens.

I am about to have mine changed, along with the water pump and tensioner since the water pump should be replaced before 100,000 and involves the same labor. I've found that at a Chevy dealership the whole package ranges from $500-$800 depending on who you call.

Apparently the timing belt came off and caused considerable engine damage. On checking problems on internet this appears to be a not uncommon problem with this model.

Chevy Aveo 1.6 Engine, Timing Belt Broke, Replaced,Runs Rough?

Did you have the dealer change the belt because it broke ?
If this is the case they should know if it is an interfearance engine and if it is in fact an interference engine they should have checked the valves. If you had the belt changed just because you were scared it was going to break on you then I am sure the car ran fine when you took it in.
The explanation you gave sounds to me like they have the belt a tooth off and they need to re do it because the timing is out.
I hope this helps
Regards
Sam
