SOURCE: My battery is boiling and smelling. Is it a faulty battery, or is my alternator causing it to over-charge the battery?

You need to replace the battery to start with. you cannot test the charging system with the battery the way it is or you will get a false reading. Once you replace the battery, you can then test your charging system to see if the alternator is causing the problem. If its charging more than 14.8 -15 volts, its too much and you will need to replace the alternator.

The rotten egg smell is a dead giveaway that your catalatic converter is bad. This could also be the cause of your misfirie condition. Take to your mechanic to have the converter replaced and this should correct your problem.

SOURCE: changed maf sensor because of p0113 code stillhave

P0113 is air temp circuit high. The maf sensor (mass air flow) sensor just measures the amount of air entering the engine. The iat (intake air temp) sensor is the one that detects the temperature of the air.
Change that sensor, and the code should disappear. It is located in the intake manifold or air plenum.

Battery discharging when car not in use

You need to be more specific about which make of car, since different manufacturers use different types of alarm.
A dying battery is common - even a new battery will eventually discharge when not in use, but if it does so in less than a month or so, you probably have a dead cell.
With modern batteries a dead cell is not easily diagnosed unless the battery has refillable cells. In this case you can charge the battery for a short while, then have someone crank the engine while you peek inside the opened cells. A bad cell will manifest itself by "boiling" - emitting lots of bubbles. You should also get a smell like rotten eggs.
If you are near a battery / exhaust / brake specialist, they should be able to test the battery for you free of charge using professional equipment. If they don't have a battery tester, they are not professional.

When running, the Navigator has a rotten egg smell and misses.

The rotten egg smell is because the engine is not properly burning and processing the fuel and exhaust gases. The first culprit to suspect is bad catalytic converters. But since you are also experiencing misfires you can probably start with a tune up. And clean the fuel injectors. You can try running some Techron through the gas tank. Then have your vehicle scanned for error codes. Most auto parts stores will scan your codes for you.

If your scan does not indicate anything and you still have the egg smell, you probably need to replace one or more catalytic converters.

Take a look at this video on how to try to clean catalytic converters before buying new ones...

Smoke around battery and electrical smell also

Smoke is generally associated with heat, possibly wiring trapped and shorting out. Get it checked out by a garage, batteries are extremely dangerous, they are filled with sulphuric acid that give off Hydrogen gas when charging and discharging (this smells like bad eggs) If this is the smell, a spark or light could cause an explosion and cause you serious damage, best course of action get an experienced opinion. All warning lights are on on my car dash board what is the problem

could be a bad battery sending low voltage to the ecm causing false codes, etc. can even cause a rich mixture and the rotten egg smell from the cats. This may sound funny but it costs nothing to check and it worked for me, I swear by it. Check battery voltage first, then chase the codes.

Alternator burns out

You have a faulty battery, that's probably what killed the other alternator. The rotten egg smell is gases coming from your battery. Change the battery before you cook the second alternator.

My 2002 Pontiac GP V6 smells like rotten eggs from the exhaust

The rotten egg smell if it is coming from the exhaust is a very good sign that you catalytic converter has failed or is failing. but a bad or battery that is being overcharged can also make a rotten egg like smell.

2001 mazda protege battery overheating - bad smell....., not catalytic converter . 1.6l.

You need to get the alternator output checked. If you can smell something like rotten eggs then what you are smelling is hydrogen gas which is explosive !! Batteries get hot and smell because the alternator is charging at too high a level. Check the output with a multimeter across the battery with the engine running. If it reads higher then 14.4 volts, its the alternator and you need to fix it as overcharging of your battery will cause total failure (if it has not already screwed your battery)..

Won't start. Seems like no power is getting to the starter. Also smelled a little electrical smoke.

You could have a bad battery, is there a hydrogen sulfide smell ( rotten eggs)? Try a new battery if it is more than a couple years old.

Engine light

The "rotten-egg" smell is caused indirectly by the catalytic converter. The main cause is a rich mixture condition from the engine. Your SUV is equipped with a computer controlled engine management system. You can scan your computer for fault or error codes. The information should pinpoint the malfunctioning components. There is an alternate reason for the rotten egg smell. this also can be caused by a over charged battery. if so, make sure the alternator isn't overcharging the battery cell. it will boil the contents causing the egg smell. I recommend a diagnostic run to make sure what this problem is.

please rate and god bless.
