By "charged," do you mean that there is voltage on both terminals to ground? Is that how you measured it? What kind of equipment are you talking about ... a motor vehicle? I need to know make, model and year, to offer any further info or help!

My 2002 dodge caravan won't start


How about the start solinoid? Try jumping the large terminals with a large screw driver and see if it turns over if so make sure there is 12 volts on the coil of the soinoid when you turn the key, if so replace the solinoid.

The starter solinoid is on the top of starter. Short the two large terminals on it, if the starter turns then the solinoid is faulty. If not then the starter is faulty.

hi, i think you have put the MAIN HEAVY CABLE direct to the STARTER MOTOR on the SOLINOID. this will keep the starter motor running. take battery lead NEGATIVE CABLE OFF the BATTERY, and change the MAIN HEAVY CABLE from the SOLINOID terminal to the other MAIN terminal on the SOLINOID and NORMALLY it SHOULD go with a SLIGHTY (smaller cable this GO'S to the FUSEBOX rest of car POSITIVE FEED). the other small wire is the solinoid START WIRE. the solinoid has 2 circuits the first circuit is HEAVY BATTERY LEAD to 1 terminal on the solinoid. the other side of the solinoid HEAVY CABLE to STARTER MOTOR. this is only 1 side of the SOLINOID (THIS IS A VERY VERY HEAVY SWITCH). the other side of the SOLINOID is the START SIDE (REMOTE CONTACT) of the SOLINOID, by turning the IGNITION KEY to STARTER POSITION, this operates the SOLINOID. this makes contact to run the starter motor. once the connections are done REPLACE NAGATIVE BATTERY LEAD and start the car. gerry

I picked up a 1988 Ford F150 6cy and the starter solenoid missing


I have provided an image that will assist you and it will connect like so;

1. Connection 1 should have the Pos. (+) battery cable and all of the wires with the large eyelet connectors from the wiring harness connected to it, except for the large cable that runs down to the starter.

2. Connection 2 should only have the large cable going down to the starter connected to it, and there should be no other wire connected there.

3. Connection 3 is the "S" terminal on the starter solenoid, and it is the wire with the small push on connector that is hot only when the key is in the "start" position, usually it is a red wire with a blue stripe, but that is not always the case.

4. Connection 4 is the "I" connection on the starter solenoid and it feeds current back into the ignition, and it is not used on a lot of vehicles after 1981, but if your vehicle has it it will be a small push on connector that will not have any power from it at all, and it will usually be a black wire with a white stripe, but that is not always so.

How do you connect alternator wires to the starter


There is only one wire common to the alternator and starter and this is the main+ wire which goes from the alternator down to the main feed terminal of the starter solenoid from there it runs to the battery + terminal.If you are replacing the cable use one of the same diameter......

Starter wont engage


The problem is either the starter solinoid (located on fender near battery) or you are not getting power to the "s" terminal on the starter solinoid from the ignition switch. If you follow the positive battery cable from the battery you'll follow it to the solinoid. Remove the small wire from the terminal marked "s" on the solinoid and using a screwdriver jump from "s" terminal (not the wire) to where positive battery cable connects to solinoid. (with battery connected). If starter doesn't do anything the solinoid is bad. If starter cranks then you are not getting voltage from ignition switch through "s" terminal wire.

Have a 1989 F250 diesel put a solinoid on the starter and now it just clicks


JU JU Fruit. Your battery is low. You cannot get enough voltage from the system through the ign switch to pull the solinoid in. You have enough voltage to crank the starter, but I am sure this is marginal as well. The starter cranking is all about amps, the solinoid pulling in is more about voltage. Put a volt meter on your battery and I bet it reads less than 12.6 - what a fully charged battery should read.

On the F250, clicking solinoid is also due to low battery voltage. Pull both batteries and have them fully charge and checked. Stores like advance auto parts will dothis for you for free. Clean all of the terminals and reinstall. If batteries are OK, have thew charging system checked also. Again Advance will check it for you

STARTER SOLINOID 90 F 150

There should be 2 wires going to the starter/solenoid. One should be a big heavy duty type battery type
wire and the other should be a smaller wire. The large wire goes to the larger of the two lugs. This lug will have a large nut maybe 7/16 size. The smaller wire goes on the smaller lug.
Be sure the ground terminal of the battery is disconnected before you do any connecting
wires.
