Can't start engine, after winter storage? fond gas in crank case and spark plug, will not turn over starter checked ok new silonid and icniton was checed

hi can you turn engine over by hand [engine s not sezied ] and how did you test the battery and how did you test starter because if the engines not seized and you put a jump lead from your positive terminal off a good battery to a starters main terminal and it wont, turn over the starters faulty or there is no engine earth so connect the other jump lead from the negative battery teminal to the engine block and try again it will turn over if the starters good if the starter turns over with the jump leads check the small terminal on the starters wire is live when someone turns the ignition key if it is and the starter does not turn over then the soleniod on the starter is faulty if no live at small terminal then the ignition switch or starter relay are faulty best of luck yates2104546

Try a different key, the chip in the key is probably bad creating the vehicle not to crank as the exciter ring cannot pick up a signal from the master key.

If you are getting fuel and spark, than it probably is either a bad ground, or the TPS sensor itself.

Oil is leaking getting into the cylinders which is being burnt which is causing the white smoke from the exhaust. You might have compression problems or worn valves.

Providing that your timing belt is ok and your engine tune up is such that the engine was running smoothly, you need three basic things for the engine to turn on. 1) Air and 2) fuel 3)Spark. To see if you are getting a spark, you can disconnect a spark plug wire from the spark plug and lay it next to the engine. have someone crank the engine over and listen for a spark sound. You will probably not be able to see the spark during the day. you can see the spark if it's dark outside. if you have a spark then connect the spark plug wire back to the spark plug. disconnect the hose from the throttle body. This hose comes from the air filter housing to the throttle body. Have someone hold the gas pedal down and spray some engine starter fluid that you can buy at the auto parts. Release the gas pedal, then hold the gas pedal down slighly and crank the engine. If the engine turns on and then turns off, check to see if you are not out of gas. if gas level is ok, your fuel filter may need to be replaced.

Cranks but doesnt start


I am a self emplyed mechanic, if a motor cranks but does not start, that is not a starter, you need to see if you have gas or spark . is there a buzzing in the gas tank when you turn the key. if so then you have gas. now you needto see if you have spark. need 2 people to do this . pull a spark plug wire and stick a screw drive in the boot and crank the motor please stand back,and look for spark. if you have spark. then you need a crank position sensor thank you ted

Wont start it cranks but nothing happens.wont turn over. put a new what you would call distributor. still nothing.


If the Starter isn't turning the engine over, but you hear a clicking sound, you may have a bad Starter.
If the Starter is turning the engine over, but you are getting no Spark, you may have a failed Camshaft or Crankshaft Position Sensor, or your Timing Belt may have jumped or broken(common on the neons).
If the Starter is turning the engine over, but you are getting Spark, you may have a failed fuel pump, fuel pump relay, or fuel pressure regulator.

Before you start replacing sensor, double check the Timing belt to ensure it hasn't broken or jumped, and check to see if you are getting a spark or not.

Engine won't start


If you turn the key to ON position and its not cranking at all,then its battery fault.If its cranking but not starting at all.That means the starter is also getting power.So if its cranks but not start then there are few possibilities to be checked.But if its not craning and no noise then battery and starter are to be checked.In other case :----

A jeep that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. Also these problems are related to faulty spark plug. Check the spark at spark plugs when you start the jeep. Do you notice any spark. Actually you should see. If in case there is no spark then it's a spark plug problem. Also the coil pack gives power to spark plug. So check the voltage at coil pack. It will show 12 volt. If there is no voltage noticed at coil pack then its faulty coil pack that has to be replaced. If all the possible options checked out ok then check the jeep starter. The starter gets power from battery to start the jeep. If the starter is faulty then it will not let the jeep to start. Also check and confirm that there is fuel in the jeep. If its very low fuel then in some cases this causes the problem. Also check and confirm that fuel pump is functioning properly and the fuel filter is not clogged. One of the easiest ways to check for a fuel pump related problem is to spray a little starting fluid into the air intake while trying to start the jeep. If the jeep starts momentarily, then there's a good chance the fuel pump is not working or the jeep is out of gas. You can also listen for the fuel pump's humming sound when the key is first turned on. Also if a inoperative fuel pump is suspected, a good technician will always check to verify there is power and ground being supplied to the pump, to eliminate the possibility of a bad relay or electrical issue. Fuel pressure can be checked with a pressure gauge and if there is pressure, pulse can be checked at the fuel injectors in several ways including the most common, with the use of noid lights. Crank, won't start problem. I checked the spark plugs on Jeep 98. Looks good. Could it be the crank sensor or starter coil?


Yes it is very much possible.But there are many other possibilities too,including starter and spark plugs issue.

If your engine cranks normally but will not start because it has no spark, or it stalls and won't restart because it has no spark.

You can also do a test to confirm the problem .The procedure to do the test is as follows:---

If your engine has spark plug wires, disconnect one of the plug wires from a spark plug and place the end of the wire near a metal surface on the engine. Then insert a small Phillips screwdriver into the end of the wire (the plug boot), or a small bolt or nail to provide a conductive path. Then crank the engine and look for a spark to jump from the screwdriver, bolt or nail in the end of the plug wire to the engine. If you do not see a spark, there is an ignition problem.

OR-----------

If your engine has a coil-on-plug ignition system with no plug wires, In that case remove one of the coils from the spark plug and insert an old spark plug, a spark plug tester or a screwdriver into the end of the coil. Ground the spark plug or plug tester to the engine, then crank the engine and look for a spark. No spark indicates an ignition problem.If the engine has no spark, check for voltage at the coil positive terminal when the ignition key is on. If NO voltage, then problem is on the trigger side of the coil (pickup, crank sensor, ignition module or primary wiring circuit).

But If there is NO voltage at the coil itself, then in that case the problem is on the supply side (the ignition switch or ignition wiring circuit).-----------------

Car will not start. replaced the battery and will not turn over


Engine wont start.If car battery voltage is low then engine wont start.The fully charged battery will show 12 volt.But if battery is showing 12 volt.Then check the battery to starter connection.If that is also checked ok then check voltage for starter itself.The starter is also a 12 volt part.But if the starter is faulty then it has to be replaced.If you start the car but if its not starting then its starter fault.But if the car makes cranking noise but its not getting turn over then there are many other possibilities.A car that cranks over but doesn't start, in many cases will be due to a bad fuel pump, a broken timing belt, an inoperative cam sensor or crank sensor. My '93 F250 5.8 l Automatic was turning over slowly when cranking to start. Replaced battery no change; Then after sitting for 2 mo. turning key to start produced only a click and dead gauges (battery...


The battery to starter connection has power.the battery is ok.but there are many other possibilities related to battery and its other connections,the spark plugs,the fuel pump,the fuel itself,the sensors(o2 sensor,maf sensor)the valve(IAC valve,egr valve). Most probably the spark plug,the coil pack and crank shaft sensor.This 3 are not getting power to get the car start.

There are some possibilities which you will have to check in this case:--

1) First of all check the power and voltage to the battery. With meter it will show exact 12 volt if the battery is charged. If the voltage is less get the battery charged at local auto repair shop. If the battery is internally drained and not getting charged then its time to replace the battery.

2) When you crank the car do you see spark coming at the spark plug? If no then its time to check the spark plugs and coil pack. If the spark plugs are not worn out and looks new then its time to check coil pack. The spark plug gets power to spark from coil pack.

3) The other thing to check in this case is the starter solenoid of the car. If the battery is charged and you start the car then it gives power to the starter to start the car. But if starter is faulty or not connected properly then car will not start.

4) The other thing to check in this case is fuel in the car. If there is fuel in the car then check the blockages in the fuel pump if the fuel pump looks proper then check the fuel filter above the fuel pump.

5) If all the above possibilities mentioned above checked out OK/perfect then it's a electrical issue and the wiring's in the car needs to be checked. The car gets power from the battery to get started. so the wires from battery needs to be checked one by one.

I have a 1995 dodge neon that would not start after a cold week of sitting. When trying to start it, i decided that the battery was frozen... got a new battery and replaced it... however did not tighten...


When you turn it over by hand it is getting "stuck" on the compression stroke. Take out all the spark plugs and it should turn over easily just in case your "stuck" situation is something more sinister like a broken timing belt causing the valves to hit the pistons (most unlikely). You can then check the condition of the plugs making sure they are not fouled and by cranking the engine with the starter motor to check the spark. You are looking for a nice strong blue regular spark. A small weak spark may not be sufficient to make the engine fire. If the spark is weak take take out the coil lead from the distributor and as it is being cranked see if a strong spark is thrown when you hold the end 6mm away from a grounding point. Work your way either side depending on the spark result to determing where you are loosing spark. If the spark is ok try some starting fluid to see if you can get the engine to fire. If it fires on starting fluid but won't run then the fuel circuit is suspect. If you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail you need to check the injectors are pulsing. You can bye a noid light which plugs into the injector and flashes every time a pulse is received. These cost about $20 form the auto shop. My bet is your sensors are ok though...

Mk1 Cortina engine starting problems


All fords were notorious for starting at one bit but on the Cortina
that I had one winter I had to remove Two spark plugs from 1 and 3 cylinder , take them in the house warm them up on the gas ring then on return to the car pour in a half spoonful of petrol to the "pots" then refit the hot plugs then after 3 swings she would go. The only other solution was to put the car in a nice warm
garage.!!
