Wires for abs and traction control seperated from wiring harness and other end plugs into hub assembly.where do those two wires go exactly go in the harness

You torqued the axle nut to the proper spec?

The ABS harness from the new wheel bearing is in the correct clock position?

Are you sure one of the pins in the connector isn't bent? Look carefully in the sensor side of the connector. The male pins are very small and easily bend.

Check the harness on the car side of the connector. It is very common for the harness to break or corrode especially near the connector or anywhere along the harness where it routes through the wheel well area.

Absolutely YES! The bearing and hub assembly contains the wheel speed sensor which is used by the Antilock Brake System (ABS) and the Traction Control (TC) system to see when a wheel is trying to lock up and cause skidding. The ABS will release the hydraulic pressure to the brake on that wheel and the traction control will reduce engine speed to prevent the wheel from locking up or causing you to spin out.
Many GM vehicles also commonly have problems with the wiring harnesses to the wheel speed sensors that can cause this same problem. The computer does not know WHY it cannot read the speed sensor signal. It only knows that it is not getting the signal and this is why the light is turned on. Before paying the BIG BUCKS for a wheel bearing and hub assembly, it would be wise to make absolutely certain that the problem is not being caused by a fault in the wiring harness. I have seen many mechanics automatically replace the wheel bearing only to find out that the problem still exists because they did not take the time to DIAGNOSE the problem. The fault code description says "Wheel Speed Sensor CIRCUIT fault." They see "speed sensor and automatically replace the sensor without actually checking the circuit. Not a problem unless you are the customer having to PAY for this type of guess-work!!!

There are wiring harness repair kits available for MOST GM vehicles just for this purpose.

I have included pictures of the bearing and hub assembly and the wiring harness kit to help you understand what we are talking about here.

Note the electrical connector sticking out of the hub assembly. This is the wires to the speed sensor. In the other picture, the connector at the end of the wiring harness is what plugs into the connector in the hub assembly. The other end of it gets spliced into the main vehicle harness in the engine compartment, after cutting the original harness out.

My services traction light comes on on my 05 chevy impala and my abs light doesnt go off neither does my trac light. What could be the problem? and how much would u think i looking at in cost to fix it?


Very common problem. The MOST LIKELY cause is that you have a front wheel speed sensor that is not working properly. This could be due to a bad front wheel bearing assembly or it could be a wiring problem. GM has had a LOT of problems with the wiring harnesses. A company named "DORMAN" makes a harness repair kit. (See picture below) The Dorman part number is: Part Number: 970-041 The wheel speed sensor itself and the wheel bearing come as a complete "HUB" assembly. The wheel bearing should be checked for looseness and the speed sensor should be tested at the speed sensor connector for AC voltage output when the wheel is spinning. If the bearing or the sensor is bad, then you must replace the hub assembly. If this is the case, I recommend using the "Timken" hub assemblies. They are more expensive, but are much better quality. I have had many problems using the cheaper brands. (See picture below) If the wheel bearing and sensor is OK, then the harness should be replaced. You will have to scan your Antilock Brake System (ABS) module to find out which one is causing the light to come on. As far as cost...it depends on exacltly WHAT it needs and WHO is doing the job. There also may be more than one speed sensor giving you problems. Your best bet is to get it diagnosed and get an estimate of repairs. If they try to sell you a hub assembly, ASK them if they actually TESTED the speed sensor. MOST mechanics out there will just throw a speed sensor (hub assembly) at the problem if they have a speed sensor code, only to find out later that the problem is in the harness. Of course, the customer is the one who ends up paying for their incompetence when this happens. dttech_36.jpg

I replaced the rear breaks rotars and shocks on my 2007 chev tahoe and now the abs light and service traction control and servive stabilitrak light came on. Jow can I reset?


Sounds like you may have disconnected or damaged one or both of the rear wheel speed sensors. Inspect the wiring going to the rear hub assembly, just a two wire harness.

I agree that it is more then like the the hub bearing assembly that also houses the speed sensor I would first check that there is no damage to the wiring that goes to the hub bearing that could be easy repaired, or debri that has been caked in between the sensor & the hub, use an air preesure to clean it out. Hub bearings are very expensive, so try this first. Good luck

You have a faulty wheel speed sensor. This is a magnetic pick up sensor on your wheel bearing hub and it controls your abs. If the car can not sense all 4 wheels then the abs will default back to normal brakes and your traction control will not work. Look at your wheel bearing hubs and check for these sensors. They are on the underside of the car and are black plastic with a wire comming out of it. A piece of gravel may have broken the pick up or the wires to a sensor may be broken as well. To replace it is usually a couple of screws on the hub assembly and a plug to disconnect from your wire harness.

I have the same problem with my '98 Buick Century. Its due to a bad ABS sensor wiring harness, in my case that is. A few other things can cause the light to come on. If its because of the wiring being bad like in my situation, you simply need to replace the wiring harness and possible the sensor itself depending upon where the damage is in the electrical circuit . The sensor's wiring goes bad usually because over time, water, dirt and road grime get into the wiring and other components of the sensor and cause damage or a electrical short somewhere. Corrosion is most likely what damaged my sensor's wiring, as I am from the Northern U.S. where salt is spread on the roads in the winter to deal with icy conditions.

These ABS sensor wiring harnesses seem to be prone to water infiltration. I first noticed the light come on during a heavy rain storm when I drove through a flooded roadway where the sewer drains clooged up. Since then, every time I would drive through a relatively deep puddle, the light would come on until I killed the engine and restarted the car.

This periodic tendancy for the light to come and go like this is most likely due to a temporary short in an electrical circuit somewhere in the sensor's wiring. The code is thrown and stays active until the car, and ECM, is restarted. But over time, the water that is getting into the wiring harness or the sensor's wiring itself is causing any ferrous metal (like in the wiring) to rust (corrode). The salt on the roads in the winter where I live only hastens the corrosion. Now, its to the point where the sensor or its wiring is so badly damaged that it permenantly throws a code. I need to replace the sensor and/or the sensor's wiring harness to keep the code from coming on.

Keep in mind that while the light is on, your anti-lock braking system will not engage when you need it to. For your information, if you start sliding and your ABS isn't working (your ABS light is on) you should pump your brakes the way you would in a car without ABS brakes. It goes without saying that you do not pump your brakes when your ABS is working properly.

I'm not sure if your situation is the same as mine. Keep in mind that you have 2 ABS sensors. Their wired from your front wheel bearings (hubs) to their respective wiring harnesses which are stationed to both front lower control arms via a metal clip on the back of the harness. I know which one is bad in my car because I found it disconnected from the control arm at one point and also because it is the side that gets wet when the code was thrown temporarily in the past. You may not have the same insight to your situation as I do in mine. Also, other things can cause this light to come on. Trapped air inside the ABS modulator assembly is one example. If you replaced the master cylinder, a brake line or valve ahead of the ABS modulator, or if you had to replace the modulator or high pressure accumulator, air can get inside the ABS modulator assembly.

Air can be very difficult to remove from an ABS modulator assembly because of all the nooks and crannies inside the unit. The modulator may have eight to 10, or more, ABS/traction control solenoid valves, plus various check valves and dead-end ports. Some ABS modulators have special bleed screws to help you vent the trapped air when bleeding the system. Others do not and require the use of a scan tool to cycle the ABS solenoids while you bleed the system.

Some low end shop mechanics more than likely will not know how to diagnose and repair this problem and tell you to take it to the dealer and pay the dealer prices. Its expensive, but its what I suggest you do if you've had any major brake work done lately and now your light won't go away. If a shop can be blamed for the trapped air, I suggest you go about getting them to pay to have it fixed, either by simply asking or by legal action.

A few other things can cause the ABS light to come on in your vehicle. The best way to pinpoint the problem is with the use of scan tool. I suggest either taking your car to a Buick dealership or to a mechanic who you know for sure is knowledgable with the specifics for your car. It wouldn't be a shock to me, however, if it ends up just being a bad sensor or a rusted wire somewhere. This seems to be the most common cause for the ABS light to come on. If the sensor itself is bad, which is common, then you have to replace the entire wheel bearing or hub assembly as it is properly referred to. They are kind of expensive (last I checked, it was like $140 per wheel bearing). The actual ABS sensors are part of the hub assembly and cannot be replaced seperately. Hope I was able to help.

I own the 2002 Buick Rendezvous CX and I've encountered the same problems listed here. The ABS / Traction Control Lamp stays on and was throwing a code for the left wheel speed sensor as well as an anti-lock brake code (both in the wheel bearing hub assembly). I replaced the left and right front wheel hub assembly yet this did not eliminate the abs codes. 
Ultimately, I traced this problem to a break in the wire that leads to the left hub assembly. Although the sensor was properly connected, the wire (which is encased in a plastic housing) was broken. This is the wiring which leads from the abs wiring harness under the hood down to the left wheel abs sensor. 
I would suggest that you simply remove the left wheel and inspect the wire that leads to the abs sensor (there is only one wire on each wheel). Mine literally fell apart when I removed the plastic housing around the wire. I spliced the wire together and put it back in the plastic housing. After this, my abs codes disappeared and my anti-lock brakes began working again!
This is a simple fix that many people spend $1000 + on by replacing the hub assembly which does not fix the problem.
