Hello Swamp...

Check your power steering pump reservoir for the correct fluid level.

If your hear any belt screeching that could indicate a worn PS drive belt/ adjust or replace.

check your steering pump fluid. If you need to top it up, there are a number of types. It should tell you on top of the cap on the reservoir.

The rack and pinion steering is causing your steering to be tight and your power steering pump will cause your light to go

Power steering stiff

Sounds like your power steering pump is getting wore out im assuming that you have checked the tension on your power steering belt and its tight and that your power steering fluid is full id try changing your power steering pump you can probably pick one up from a scrap yard cheap also try this website for cheap new parts

I am installing a steering wheel on a 1991 chevy silverado pick up and I need the torque specs

mcdevito75 here, I really don"t know, even if there are manufacturers torque specs. I myself just make the nut very tight, remember the steering wheel goes onto the steering shaft which is tapered.

Power steering

the power steering reservoir on this car is on the passenger side, back of the motor, far down. you will see a small cap with a picture of a white steering wheel. keep looking, it's difficult to see but it is there!
as for the noise, my first suspicions would either be upper strut bearings, or possible a lower control arm bushing pulling out of place. failing those, could be a seizing tie rod end or ball joint. very unlikely, but not to be ruled out, is the intermediate steering shaft (what connects your steering wheel to the steering rack). a mechanic with a good knowledge in suspension diagnosis should be able to pick off your problem. if you wish to continue diagnosing yourself, a mechanics stethascope can be very useful to hear wear the steering linkage is binding. good luck!

My power steering whines making tight turns and becomes difficult to maneuver. I keep tabs on reservoir level and seems to be relatively unchanged. I have sprayed a degreaser around the area and do seem to...

Power steering does have to work harder for tight turns. If possible - keep the vehicle moving while turning, and keep tyre pressures up.
Unless you are getting leaks I wouldn't investigate further untill a failure occours.

The only thing I can recommend is you drain and replace the PS fluid at this stage, as it can loose lubricity over time.
Changing the aux belt at recommended intervals is also advised.

My 1990 chevy astro mini-van has a loose tilt steering column. I need a diagram and instructions on how to repair it. It also needs a horn kit and new ignition switch any help would be appreciated.

Ok Here is what you need to do this job
1. #8 tork head wrench
2. # 3 tork head wrench
3. New cylinder or lock buy at junk yard or from dealer or lock smith with keys.
4. Tube of lock tight
5. steering wheel removal tool Rent it from Schucks
6. steering wheel spring compression tool Rent it as well.
7. Two dental picks to remove spring.
Now make thew wheels straight and pull the horn button off should just pop off, next you will see a nut 3/4 inch remove the nut now find the right size of threaded bolts out of the kit and put them in the holes with puller over the steering column remove steering wheel. Forgot to mention remove the metal cup and plastic ring held on by a3 philips screws. This is your horn button, next put the U shaped compression tool on the bolt that you took the nut off and compress the spring 1/4 of an inch to 3/8's of an inch. Now take the picks and get them under steel ring slide the ring over the steering bolt and pull clamp off now remove plastic plate you are now where you can get to the 2 screws on top to tighten the steering wheel. you will see a screw just at the end of the cylinder lock remove the one screw and pull the cylinder lock out, put a drop of lock tight on each screw and tighten down look to see if you see a wire by the lock ring is sticking up it will have a 45 bend in the copper wire there will be two one side by side this has to be pulled out along with the plastic holder that holds the two wires in this also holds the lock in as well as the one screw, install the new lock put lock tight on the screw and install new cylinder lock and key once you have done all of this leave it apart and get back to me so I can tell you how to remove the bueaty ring to get to the screw on the back side.

Power steering difficult to turn wheels in tight stationary spots

no its not.. something is wrong with the power stearing assemply. is there oil leaking ? if so there may be a hole i the line. of nothave the power stearing motor checked.
