Dodge had a lot of transmission problems like yours so I would check with the dealer to see if there are any recalls for your ram.

Does this feel like a chassis or transmission issue to you?

This could be an issue with either power delivery or wheel and suspension issue

Squeak in low gear.

Try spraying the belt with a "dressing" spray. With the engine not running of course. If it stops, then your belts may need adjustment or replacement.

If it is a four wheel drive it will be on the transfer case,
If two wheel drive it will be on transmission,it still looks like where a speedometer hookup, but it will have a sensor with three wires now

Trans

I had a similar problem with my 1997 F250 only with 1st & 2nd gear. At the same time the ABS light was on and the speedometer was acting eratic. In my case it was a bad speed sensor on the rear differential. About $30.00 and took me less than 15 minutes to fix.

I'm assuming you have already looked at the trans for any loose or worn electrical or vacuum lines and connections.

1. Car will not go into gear:
  • Gear selector cable has failed
  • Brake lock solenoid has failed not allowing the gear selector to move out of "Park"

  • Shorted electrical component not allowing the PCM to control the transmission. Example: shorted fuse
  • Flex plate (flywheel) is broken completely not transferring engine power to the transmission.
2. Car goes into gear but then fades out of gear or is slipping while driving:
  • Transmission fluid is low
  • Transmission clutch discs or bands are worn out or burned

3. Car goes into gear but does not shift out of first:
  • Blown fuse to the PCM controller
  • Faulty vehicle speed sensor (VSS)
