1998 toyota rav 4 that keeps overheating. I just replaced the thermostat

Thermostat may be installed upside down...this can cause overheat.
To test your engine...if you don't think thermostat is faulty, remove the thermostat.
This is sometimes called "running cold"...and it should not overheat. If it does, you have bigger problem than thermostat.
You can test thermostat too by placing it in hot water thats not quite boiling and see if its opening properly.

Hope this helps...

Takes long to get hot air, it does not overheat, air is not hot enough

if what you are saying is when its cold out and you start your car for the first time it take a while to get the heater to start blowing hot air but once you get going it works fine

you might want to try changing your thrmostat to one that opens a lower temp some open at 195 and others as low as 140

what happens is your heater uses the hot water that is used to cool your motor the therostat allows the water to flow thu the motor once the water in the motor has reached the set temp so on a cold morning the water takes longer to heat up and will then inturn take longer to get hot water to your heater allowing you to get hot air

get it ? i think i might be confused now

if you need help changing your themostat let contact me
a new one is less than $20.00

My car is rumming hot and the antifreeze is leaking I'm thinking it's my water pump

It could be the water pump , or something else , like a faulty thermostat. Where is the coolant leaking from ? If it is leaking from the water pump , then yes , your pump might be toast.
If the thermostat is no good , the engine will warm up to normal temp , and then overheat quite quickly. As it overheats and the coolant expands and boils , it could back up into the overflow reservoir and leak out onto the ground. You need to get someone to diagnose the problem ASAP , running your engine in an overheat condition could very quickly blow your head gasket and/or warp a cylinder head. If you can , please post a bit more info. Does it run but at a higher than normal temp. Does it only overheat when stopped in traffic etc.
Could be water pump , or thermostat , or plugged up radiator , or nonfunctioning cooling fans.

What could it be

Hi, I think you have an airlock in the pump,You need to drain the water totaly when stone cold.Drain radiator and disconect hoses from waterpump and top hose from themostat. Reconect pump hose and add water slowly into radiator through top hose untill rad is full then squeeze bottom hose vigourously,You ll feel the water tension in the hose, Connect all hoses and top up water level. This must be done cold as hot and cold water will cause an airlock. Hope this helps you out.All the best.Phil
