i1m sorry to say that wheel bearings are not set to a torque specification, when you have repacked the bearings [ inner and outer ] ,reassembled it ,take the nut up until thewheel starts to drag and not turn very far when you try to spin it spin it backward and forward several times,grab the top of the wheel and try to push it in and out,if you getany movement at all tighten the nut a couple of castilations. do it all over again, spinthe wheel a few times and then try for the crossways movement again, if there is no movement ,you are very close to being right....................now comes the experience bit , iwould take it one more castilation of the nut because i know the feel that is need ed,,without that i suggest you put the pin in where you ereput the cap on and go for a 5 minute drive . whenyou get back ,jack it up and thespinning of the wheel again and try for the top crossways movement ,if there is any tighten thenut 2 castilations, and provided that when you try to spin the wheel by hand with a reasonably strong push the wheel should trael about 6 inches at least after your hand leaves it ,it is now a close as you are going to get itput it all to gether and for the next day or so put yor hand on the grease cap after you have driven anydistance, and you will feel it is warm but you should be able tohold your hand on the grease cap. there you have it ,any questions come back."youdoit"

Tightening torque for the hub nut is 200Nm and the road wheels are 85Nm

NOTE: The rear wheel bearings are remowned on these cars for sticking to the stub axle quite badly, and often have to be forced off using a slide hammer on the drum, it is quite common to end up damaging the wheel bearing, so be prepared to replace this as well in this event

There is no torque specs,this nut has to be tightened back like it was ,the best thing to do,was,to late now,is to use a torque wrench to remove the nut,and remember the torque,and when replacing it,torque it back to that spec,the reason being,there is a crush sleeve between the front pion bearing ,and the rear pinion bearing,and it has to be crushed to a certain amount,to aquire deepness into the ring gear,anyway just give it about 25 lbs torque,any more the crush sleeve will crush even more and the deepness of the pinion will be too much.

Need to know how to set the pinion nut.


the purpose of the collapsible spacer is to get the correct pinion bearing pre load. First step is to know the required pinion preload setting for your diff. Assuming that you have the correct mesh for the gears then insert the pinion seal. Assemble the pinion flange and do up the nut while moving back and forth the pinion flange to allow the bearing rollers to seat properly. using a suitable torque measuring procedure adjust the pinion nut until that torque setting is reached. ( suitable is the correct tool or attach a round disc of known dia to the flange and by calculation of radius times force ---from say a spring balance with a string wrapped around the disc--) That is to say 12 lb pull on a 4" radius disc will ==48ft/lb torque. Removal

CAUTION: The brake drum and hub assembly removal in this procedure is for installing a new wheel bearing, not for access to brake system components.

-All vehicles

Remove the dust cap.
Remove the wheel and tire.
For additional information, refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

-Vehicles with rear drum brakes
Release the parking brake.
Remove the brake drum and hub assembly.
Remove and discard the wheel hub retaining nut.


-Vehicles with rear disc brakes
Remove the brake disc.
For additional information, refer to in this section.

Remove the wheel hub.
Remove and discard the wheel hub retaining nut.


-All vehicles

Remove and discard the wheel speed sensor ring (brake disc shown).
Remove the circlip (brake disc shown).
Using the special tool, remove and discard the wheel bearing (brake disc shown).

-Installation

-All vehicles

CAUTION: Support the wheel hub assembly on the wheel mounting face and not on the wheel nut studs.

Using the special tool, install the new wheel bearing (brake disc shown).

Install the circlip (brake disc shown).

CAUTIONS:

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is not knocked, damaged and kept free from metal fragments.

Protect the face of the wheel speed sensor ring with a non-ferrous flat block to prevent damage.

Make sure the wheel hub or brake drum is adequately supported and do not allow it to rest on the wheel studs..

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is pressed on slowly and squarely until fully seated.

Do not exceed a maximum load of 10 kN.

Using the special tool, install a new wheel speed sensor ring (brake disc shown).

Vehicles with rear drum brakes

CAUTIONS:

Avoid impact on the wheel speed sensor ring.

Make sure the wheel speed sensor ring is clean.

Avoid any contact between the wheel speed sensor ring and a magnetic surface.

Rotate the wheel hub assembly 10 times counter-clockwise when tightening the wheel hub retaining nut to prevent damage to the wheel bearing.

NOTE: Install a new wheel hub retaining nut.

Install the brake drum and hub assembly.
Apply the parking brake.

-Vehicles with rear disc brakes


CAUTIONS:

There is no real torque settings for the rear wheels, except to say, do not over tighten or you will stretch the lugs and the will loosen over time.

How much torque on the main nut for the rear hub on a 2000 ford focus?


Hi, The nut can be reused 4 times before renewal is required. The tightening torque is 235 Nm. If possible rotate the assembly in the opposite direction to tighten direction whilst tightening to aviod bearing damage. This applies to both disc and drum brake set up's. Hope this helps.

Procedure for replacing rear whl brgs on a 2003 escape awd


4-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Rear wheel
    • Rear brake shoes
    • Rear halfshaft nut and loosen the halfshaft from the hub
    • Wheel hub and place it in a vise
    • Inner wheel bearing race from the hub
    • Antilock Brake System (ABS) sensor bracket and move the sensor aside, if equipped
    • Parking brake cable from the steering knuckle
    • Brake line from the wheel cylinder and support the knuckle
    • Lower shock absorber nut
    • Lower ball joint by holding the ball joint stud
    • Upper ball joint
    • Coil spring while noting the location of the insulator
    • Steering knuckle cam
    • Steering knuckle
    • Snapring and press out the outer wheel bearing race from the knuckle

To install:

  1. Install or connect the following:
    • New wheel bearing into the steering knuckle
    • Snapring to the knuckle
    • Wheel hub
    • Steering knuckle cam and hand tighten the bolt
    • Coil spring
    • Shock absorber lower nut. Torque the nut to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm) for 2002-04 models; 129 ft. lbs. (175 Nm).
    • Upper ball joint. Torque the nut to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm).
    • Lower ball joint. Torque the nut to 76 ft. lbs. (103 Nm). Align the steering knuckle cam and torque the bolt to 85 ft. lbs. (115 Nm).
    • Brake line to the wheel cylinder. Torque the brake line bracket bolt to 15 ft. lbs. (20 Nm) and the brake line fastener to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm).
    • Parking brake cable to the backing plate. Torque the bolt to 16 ft. lbs. (22 Nm).
    • ABS sensor bracket. Torque the bolt to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm), if equipped
    • Halfshaft nut. Torque the nut to 214 ft. lbs. (290 Nm).
    • Brake shoes
    • Rear wheel
    • Negative battery cable
  2. Fill and bleed the brake system.
  3. Check and adjust the wheel alignment as needed.

2-Wheel Drive
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Remove or disconnect the following:
    • Negative battery cable
    • Rear wheel
    • Rear brake drum
    • Wheel hub nut
    • Wheel hub
    • Inner wheel bearing race from the hub
    • Snapring
    • Wheel bearing outer race from the knuckle

How to replace rear wheel bearing on 2003 hyandia sonata


Hub & Bearing Removal & Installation To Remove:

  1. Release parking brake.
  2. Remove rear wheel assembly.
  3. Remove rear wheel speed sensor from carrier.
  4. Dismount brake caliper and support with mechanic's wire.
  5. Remove brake disc.
  6. Remove 4 axle hub mounting bolts. Special tool 09432-11000 (Typical) hyundai-08-00-6021.gif

  7. Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable gear puller), remove tone wheel.
  8. Remove carrier.
  9. Remove stakes and remove flange nut.
  10. Support bearing outer race flange and press rear axle hub out.
  11. Using tool 09432-11000 (or suitable puller), remove inner race from axle hub.
To Install:
Hub bearing assembly (Typical) hyundai-08-00-6029.gif

  1. Apply thin coat of grease to bearing contact surface and hub.
  2. Using and appropriate tool, press bearing into hub. CAUTION
    Do not press against outer race of wheel bearing.
  3. Install flange nut and stake nut until it meets concave portion of spindle.
  4. Install carrier.
  5. Use an appropriate tool to press tone wheel.
  6. Install hub/bearing assembly with rounded portion of outer race facing up.
  7. Install 4 hub/bearing assembly bolts and rotate hub to seat bearing.
  8. Measure wheel bearing starting torque with a spring balance or equivalent device.
    • Starting torque should measure 15.9 in lb (1.8 Nm) or less
  9. Install brake disc.
  10. Mount brake caliper.
  11. Install rear wheel speed sensor to carrier.
  12. Install rear wheel assembly.

How do you change the rear wheel bearings


The rear hub and bearing are combined into a single assembly. The bearing is sealed for life and requires no lubrication or attention. If the bearing is worn or damaged, you have to replace the entire hub and bearing assembly:
loosen the rear wheel lug nuts, raise the vehicle, place it on jack stands and remove the rear wheel.
Remove the brake drum or caliper and disc.
Remove the dust cover (in the center).
Unstake the hub retaining nut (bend the part out that locks it), unscrew the nut and remove the thrust washer then remove the hub assembly.
Install the new assembly and thrust washer, tighten the new nut to torque 134 lbs, then stake in the edge of the nut (opposite of unstaking).
Tap the dust cover into place, all around the edge until it's seated.
Reverse removal for the rest.

drum brakes you remove rear wheel- speed sensor-grease cap-flange nut-outer bearing-brake drum-inner grease seal-inner bearing-drive the bearing races out of the drum hub.to install -install the inner and outer bearing races.apply grease to the bearings and hub cavity.then you install the inner bearing -inner grease seal-brake drum-outer bearing-flange nut torque it to 159 to 192 ft lbs. THE REAR DISC BRAKE WHEEL BEARINGS-you have to remove rear wheel -wheel speed sensor-brake caliper and rotor-rear axle hub bolts-tone the wheel with tool 09445-21000-carrier assembly-nut after unstaking it-press out the rear axle hub-remove the bearing inner race with tool 09445-21000-remove the bushings from the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100.to install -press in the bushings to the carrier with tools 09453-33000b and 09545-21100- press in the bearings to the hub with tool 09221-21000.tighten the flange nut to meet the concave portion of the spindle-press in the tone wheel with tool 09221-21000-torque the nut to 191 ft lbs -install the hub and bearing assembly to the backing plate and torque the bolts to 88 ft lbs-install the brake caliper and rotor.install the wheel speed sensor if equipped.install the rear wheel.TO BUY THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB.LOOK UP KENT MOORE TOOLS ON INTERNET.
