Below are the common reasons why the engine is shaking:

  • Weak engine motor mounts
  • Faulty spark plugs and wires
  • Engine vibration harmonic balancer
  • Worn or loose timing belt or chain
  • Broken balance shaft timing belt
You need to take it to a mechanic to determine the source and cause of the shaky engine.

Volvo has been overheating put coolant in but it drains somewhere no leaks are visible now car wont start

This is NOT a good thing...Better check you engine oil. When engine coolant disappears without any signs of it leaking on the ground, it is usually because it is leaking into the crankcase via a blown head gasket, blown intake manifold gasket, or cracked cylinder head. If your engine oil looks milky, like a chocolate milk shake, it is time for major engine repair or replacement.

1998 Volvo s70 brakes shake

This problem is caused by the front brake rotors/disks being warped from heat, this causes the disk to run "out" excessively and you fell this as a shake, replace them or have them machined true again

I have a 2002 volvo s 60 turbo, it keeps wanting to over heat and its starting to shake also the check engine light is blinking. can you help?

You need to see your specialist now. an overheating car (especially a turbo) will cost a lot of money if it gets too hot, leave this to the experts.

1992 Volvo 240 sedan Sometimes Sputters when driving, and sometimes will stall. If I get out and shake it, it will start back up. Then check engine light comes on. Will drive fine for a few day's before...

could be the fuel computer under the dashboard. Could also be the electric pump in the tank. If you are lucky, as is often the case, it is not the pump, but the little rubber hose attached to that pump in the tank. Your car has 2 pumps, one in the tank, a submersible sending pump. The other is the main fuel pump under the hood. The tank one is easier to swap. There is an inspection plate in the trunk. You lift it out and then pull the unit by twisting the bung. I suspect the problem is here due to the fact you mention keeping it half full.

91 volvo 240 - keeps stalling out, shakes a lot when idling

My 1990 240DL was doing the same thing and it turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator. It, unfortunatley, is a shop repair. $117 for the part and $150 for labor. It runs fine now.
