Question about Buick Regal

2 Answers

My 1990 buick regal limited 3.1L V6 starts and stays running fine although it vibrates a bit. When you let it idle the engine is a little shaky but not too bad. The second you give it any gas at all even in park or neutral the engine shakes worse which you can feel in the seats. If you put it in drive to start moving and give it some gas it shakes as well and has a serious lack of power. There isn't much difference between 1/4 throttle and full throttle. I have replaced the spark plugs, cables, and did a carbon treatment with no luck. Any ideas?

It sounds like the throttle position sensor. Also on these cars. You can reset the computer. I would clean all that stuff out, TPS, throttle body etc. Then you park the car against a wall. Unplug battery for little bit. Restart it put it in drive and let it sit there against the wall until the fans(radiator) kick on. You cant touch the pedals at all. So make sure you got it parked against something very very sturdy. It takes upwards of 10-15 minutes sometimes. Thats the only way reset the computers in these. If you still have questions or need further assistance please let me know.
Thanks,
lee

How do you adjust the carburetor on my 83 buick regal limited 4.1L-v6

There should be an idle control motor on the side of the carb. The computer controls idle speed by moving the stop on that control motor. The stop is adjustable and there may also be a base idle adjusting screw near the control motor.

You have leaking engine cylinder head gaskets, this may be the cause of the overheating or a result of it, replace the head gaskets and have the radiator cleaned by a by a radiator repair shop, that should cure the problems.

2001 Buick Regal shakes when idling.

Suggestion only! If you had no shake before the tranny work, then retracing the steps backwards is a good way to find the new problem.
Go back to the tranny shop and complain #2 go to another tranny shop and get a professional to look at their work.

Idle position switch or sensor. I had 93 that would stall when i came to a stop. Cost me $43 but it was worth it. I don't know if this will fix it, but it sounds like it would.
