Get a center punch and hit an end of the key until it goes proud at the other then knock that end until the other end goes proud and repeat until you get enough of the key out to grip it with pliers or self grips and pull it out

First ques. Is where is the key located? I.e. the cam for example? You will have to disassemble down to where u can get to the key. It should be ez to tap out with a pick and hammer.

You may have a much more serious problem. The material the key is made of is hardened steel and generally does not wear. However the sprocket and or the crank slots can wear. You should use a micrometer to measure your new key width and compare that to the slot in the sprocket and the crank. If the sprocket is found to be too large replace. If the crank slot is worn, well, you have a serious problem. The real answer is to pull and disassemble the engine and have the crank nose repaired. Sorry for that news.

1999 Ford Taurus. Can see crankshaft spinning fine coming out of block. Nut on end holding harmonic balanced spinning fine too. Harmonic balancer doesn't spin. How to fix? Do I need to pull the engine to...

There is a key way in the crankshaft and the balancer with a woodruff key that keeps it locked in place. The woodruff key resembles a half moon shape. You will have to remove the balancer to see what kind of damage there is and go from there.

Does the crankshaft have a woodruff key for the harmonic balancer?

hi this depends on what harmonic balancer you are inquiring about, normal balancers do have a woodruff key,but the pulley type harmonic balancer only bolts to a cam hub on what ever it is connected to, such as water pump, etc etc... hope this helps

Crankshaft Woodruff Key Removal

You are correct, this key does drive both. While I have never tried to remove the keway with out both pulley and lower sprocket you may be able to (my gut says no but anything is worth trying once) I'd position the keyway at the 12 o'clock postion and with a good pair of needle nose pliers see if the key will roll out as you pull up and away with it. If it will not you'll of course have to remove the front of the engine and pull the timing belt, if over 60K miles on belt go ahead and replace with new.

I hope this may have assited and good luck!

How do you change the crank shaft pulley?

If you have the 3.5l engine, and you don't remove the right side engine cradle bolts, you will not have enough room and will strip out the bolt when you go to put it back in. There is only one belt. There is not a woodruff key on that engine, and the pulley can go back on any which way.

How do you remove a Woodruff key from a 1983 Toyota Tercel

the crankshaft key? after the pulley is off, take dikes (wire cutters) and grip the key at the base, then pry it up. Just like you would if you had a hammer prying up a nail.

What size is the woodruff key

With dial calipers, my closest estimate for the key size on a b2200 1987 to 199? is 3/4 inch in length, and width 190, height 240 to 250, I find that 230 is not tall enough, you may even want to check to be sure you have clearance behind the sprocket, as the shoulder on the crank and the spocket both wear down, Jack near Yelm is the brain on this.
