I have a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe that we just purchased. The cruise control light comes on but when we try to set the speed it won't engage.

Thanks for the response Greg however, my cruise control doesn't have a lever to the best of my knowledge, unless I'm missing something. My controls are located on the steering wheel. Four buttons, cruise on/off, cancel, set/coast, resume/accelerate. After clicking on the button to turn cruise on and reaching the desired speed, I click on the set button and nothing happens. I've tried holding it down and not holding it down. Nothing seems to work.

Interesting. How on earth does one check the brake switch?? Does it require a mechanic? 3 Hyundai's you say? I'm guessing you like them then? So far I'm loving mine :) so does the hubby. Much more so than my cavalier. LOL

Thanks so much for your help. Brake lights come on when we depress the brake pedal. Only other odd thing is the fuse for the cruise control is upside down. Only fuse that is...maybe that's the problem. I live in hope. Will check it out in the a.m. If that doesn't fix it then it's off to the dealer. LOL..thanks again for the help.

A:2005 santafe: after searching internet besides the tail lite filaments as cause for malfunction of cruise control (cruise lite on but cannot set/or accelerate. I read a post by a Hyundai service tec that said every third santafe with that prob the switch on steering was faulty.
Two phillips screws removes the switch unit and unplug is easy from harness. There are two printed circuit boards that are perpendicular to each other and are electrically joined by four (4) soldered pins from one board to the other....a gentile wiggle of that joint revealed that the solder joints were broken on one or two of the four...... with a FINE solder tip you can re-solder those loose joints being very careful NOT to bridge one pin to another......repair 100%

Easiest way to check the brake switch is to have one person step on the brake pedal, and another get behind the truck to see if the brake lights come on.  If the brake switch is good, you may need to have the truck checked out at the dealer.  Yes, we love Hyundai.  We've had 2 Elantra's and my wife has a Tucson.

Happy to help. The fuse may well be the issue although I'd be curious why the cruise control light comes on. If you have the owners manual, it will have a very good layout of the fuse boxes, including what fuse powers each component. Best of luck again on your new truck. I know you'll love it!

Hyundai Cruise Control can be tricky. Once you press the button to engage and the light comes on, pull the lever down toward your right knee and let go. The cruise control should engage, afterwards you can use the same procedure (pull down) to utilize the coast feature, and pull up toward the rear view mirror to accelerate. Best of luck with the new truck.

There's another possibility: check your brake switch. If the brake switch is defective, the cruise control module will always sense the brakes are on and not engage. Sorry about the cruise lever I referred to. My wife and I have owned 3 Hyundai's, all with cruise control and all have the lever down by the right hand around 4 o'clock.

After having my 2006 santa fe serviced at 60000 miles, my cruise control doesn't work. I had it lubed, radiator flush, oil change, brakes checked, timing belt replaced, water pump replaced.

Try checking all of your rear brake lights to see if they are working. If you have a burned out bulb the control cannot complete the circuit and the cruise will not work. Dont forget the third brake light sometimes have more than one bulb in them so check closely to make sure that all bulbs are good.

ABS braking system engages at slow speeds or while

Are there any malfunction lights coming on? If so then it could be a wheel speed sensor. sometimes people confuse rotor vibration with abs pulsation.

Cruise control not working sets but no cruise//

Go to Auto Zone for a FREE scan of your vehicles computer. It sounds like the vehicle speed sensor control (VSS) for your trans is bad. They will find out exacxtly what the problem is if so. The VSS is linked to your computer for the cruise as well

When driving, Speedodometer drops to zero.

I thought this year of Santa Fe had a 100k Warranty? If so, take it to the dealer and get it fixed. Even if it's not under warranty, take it and get it fixed! This is dangerous to use with the cruise control!! Do not use the Cruise Control until you get this fixed. It sounds like a bad speedomoter sensor, and that is confusing the Cruise Control. Either your speedometer is going to stop working altogether, or your going to RAM someone from behind going at a DANGEROUS rate of speed. Take it and get it fixed, and do not use the Cruise Control until it is fixed.

Cruise light turns on but set light does not

Sure enough babe! Often the problem is in the CONTROL BUTTONS (those on the steering wheel)... Yet again, I've see the problem point to the Cruise Control Module (Under the hood). Since you mentioned the 'CRUISE' light comes ON, but nothing else is working, I'd hazard a guess the control buttons are malfunctioning. If you press them REAL HARD, do they work? Otherwise, Take the vehicle into a Hyundai Service Center (dealership), pay the diagnostic fee. They will tell you EXACTLY what the problem is and what's needed to fix it (parts, labor, tax, time-frame, etc.).

I had the same problem with my 2003 santa fe. Do you have any brake lights out in back? Weird as it is, as soon as I fixed a burned out brake bulb, my cruise worked again. The only relation I can think of is that tapping the breaks causes cruise to turn off - so maybe a broken brake/tail light passes a singal to cruise control from some reason???

Cruise control stopped working in my 2004 Hyundai Sonata

This works...the cruise is directly tied to the brake lights...when I replaced the brake and side light bulbs on my 2004 Santa Fe,,,the cruise started working with no other adjustments. It must complete a circuit or something.
