Hi Bailey Green, can you remove the back part of the alternator ?
Some are sealed some you can get at the brushes.
The brushes are small metal parts that make contact with the spinning coils of the alternator.
Usually spring loaded and be careful as they will spring apart and could be lost on the ground or in the engine .
Wondering if the brushes have oil on them , that you might be able to clean and then put back into the alternator ?

Alternator not charging battery on Lexus gs300-1998.No battery signal. All other warning signals appeared. Car started right up after a jump, cut back off less than 500 feet away. What can it be?

1. Remove the battery and put it on a charger overnight, see if it holds a charge. If not repair the battery.
2. If the battery holds a charge, replace or repair the alternator' Good chance the brushes need replacing.

My 1994 Lexus GS300 (220,000 miles) Just stop, while driving.

It really sounds to me like you need a new alternator, but you should have the battery fully charged and checked as well. Before anyone puts an alternator in, make sure they check the belt condition and tension, this is often overlooked and may be the reason you're buying alternators all the time
