A make of car, model and year would be good
post the details along with these details in your next post as posts are not linked
oil in an alternator Assuming that it has a vacuum pump attached as in diesel engine will stop the alternator from charging as the oil lifts the brushes off the slip rings
flush out will normally fix the alternator but the seal in the vacuum pump has to be replaced

Why does the battery light and brake light flash on & off?

If it can be determined that the oil leak caused the alt. to fail prematurely it should be replaced at no cost to you.If it is obvious and there is alot of oil on the alt.I would file it under the warranty.

My battery light came on today and its leaking oil

There's a slight possibility that the 2 are related. If the oil leak is making the serpentine belt slick, this could cause the battery light to come on meaning that the alternator isn't fully recharging your battery. Check the belt for worn or slick spots as well as cracks. Any of these would cause the belt to slip which could trigger your battery light as well as an engine overheating warning. If the belt is tight and in good shape, you should check the battery itself. Look for corrosion on the cable ends. If the cables are loose or corroded, this also would trigger your battery warning light.

As far as the leaking oil goes, the most common cause is the dome gasket. Look for seepage around the dome cover (you may need to remove the air filter assembly to access the dome cover). For obvious reasons, you should repair both of these issues immediately. Leaking oil can lead to engine damage as well as fouling your spark plugs.

Turned on 2009 altima was flashing oil pressure then oil fillter flashing warning had oil and filter changed 3 days ago ck oil it was fine turned off car what may be the problrm

sometimes the service technician fails to remove the old oil filter gasket. This causes a leak at the oil filter. This would cause a leak which would lead to low oil pressure and loss of oil. You would have to remove the oil filter and check for an extra gasket. Or perhaps the oil filter was never tightened. If you find one then just remove it and re-install oil filter. You will, however, leak a couple cups of oil so have a drip pan ready. You may have damaged your engine if you ran with no/low oil pressure for any length of time.

Oil prtessure switch changed in aug 2010 had to stop car today at 188000 km had repaired at 185500 oil light came while driving 4km into drive parked car & saw oil dripping down ckecked oil level...

There are many things that can cause oil loss. The most common are a loose or missing oil drain plug, or a leaking oil filter. With either of these problems the oil can leak out very fast. Your mechanic will locate the oil leak as a first step, then I am sure they will then proceed to inspect the engine for internal damage due to oil loss. I would recommend a leakdown test to check for piston or ring damage, also you need to pay close attention to whether the engine has any new noises. If the leakdown test shows good results, and there are no new noises in the engine, your engine has a pretty good chance of surviving this ordeal. There are many possibility for the leak source, like worn seals, or the tow previously listed items, be sure to repair the engine where it does not leak, because loosing the oil can destroy the engine. Good luck with it.

Just fixed the valve covers and now the car wont stay crunk up

battery is probably low.when trying cranking for a period of time battery get weak thats why battery light on.charge battery.to see if it hold a charge.when battery fully charged it should be 12.5 volts.with engine running alternator out put should be 13.5 to 14.5.if not replace the alternator.or have it tested.when replacing valve covers make sure your pvc valve.in valve cover in place if not your car will stall out and idle rough.your oil leak on inside of your car from a leaking oil line to oil pressure gauge.thats why your oil light is on.

Common fault im afraid, the alternator. double check the wiring though as they do corrode, also make sure the alternator hasnt been covered in oil if it is then cure the oil leak first, as this will damage the new one if it leaks in again
