SOURCE: My alternator won'charge and it and the battery

batteries will show 12 v and still not have enough amps to start the vehicle, clean all the connection points on the battery , and charge it fully, start the vehicle and check again for voltage at the battery posts, you should have a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts, if not, yes you have a alternator malfunction,

SOURCE: New Alternator on 1994 Lexus, but battery loses charge

Did you ask the mechanic to change the alternator,or did you tell him to fix it? I would spell it out to the customer myself(not the service writer) that I would prefer to do the diagnosis, but if they didn't want to pay it,then there are no guarantees, and document this on the back of the repair ticket(saved me MANY future arguements!).If you told the mechanic to fix it,then take it back and say "Try again!".If you said "Replace the alternator" then that's what will be done.If you have no change after replacing the alternator, then you have to figure out what's not making it charge.Verify the large cable to the battery is good with a test light. The smaller connector requires a wiring diagram to diagnose, however.

My lexus has a power issue.. charger wont give a charge and my instrument panels lights windows radio.. is all dead

This sounds like a charging issue linked to the alternator. If you can start the car you can have it tested while running with a clamp on electrical system tester at a service center. Before doing so clean and inspect all battery cable and ground connections.
A bad battery will fail to hold a charge or recharge, but once the car runs on the alternator, after starting so if it starts and doesn't perform right, most often the cause will be the alternator

this means that the Alternator on the engine is not producing enough voltage to keep battery charge maintained, most likely the Alternator has a defective Diode in the voltage regulator.

Battery light is on and stiff to steer the wheel

Sounds like the serpentine bellt has come off the drive pulleys. this belt is the link between the crankshaft pulley and all the other pulleys. it drives the power steering pump, a/c compressor, and your alternator.
Stiff steering due to no Power steering pump activity and the battery light is on due to the alternator not charging the battery and supplying power to vehicle components.

My 1994 Lexus GS300 (220,000 miles) Just stop, while driving.

It really sounds to me like you need a new alternator, but you should have the battery fully charged and checked as well. Before anyone puts an alternator in, make sure they check the belt condition and tension, this is often overlooked and may be the reason you're buying alternators all the time

Once the battery was placed backwards it may have sent a charge to the radio causing it to stop working, the alternater you should just try to either get it directly replaced same model..but if you want to try make sure all conectors are the same...other then that you can probly get a rebuilt one cheaper...rebuilt your current one will make sure its the same...and one major thing before you change anything make sure that the belt is on properly for the alternator and everything and just check if you are geting any charge from it
