Find the electric pressure sender unit in the side of the block, unscrew it and install a "T" piece
screw the electric sender unit back into one section
using copper tubing screw the copper into the other section of the "T" piece and thread the copper to where you want the oil pressure gauge and finish the installation
you probably got it with plastic tubing
do not use that as the plastic melts from hot oil, gets hard from the oil , breaks and loose oil from the oil galley
wiring from the gauge is from a suitable power point at the ignition switch

My Oil Light came on and it is full of oil is it the Oil Pump and Oil Sending Unit for a 1997 Chevy L:umina

If your oil sending unit is seeping oil then I would change that first. You could get an after market pressure gauge and install it were the sending unit goes, that would tell you if its the pump.

Low oil pressure

Have you checked the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge or are you going by the gauge in the suburban. If you're going by the electric gauge in the suburban I would suggest checking it with a mechanical gauge. If the mechanical gauge confirms the oil pressure is low then you probably have a serious engine problem. If the mechanical gauge indicates normal pressure the O/P sender is probably the culprit.

My 2001 Chevy Suburban is making a loud ticking noise intermittently, it mostly happens at stop lights, but most especially when I start it in the morning. The oil pressure light and gauge show low to zero...

If the oil light and the gauge is showing low to zero pressure then you need to have the pressure checked by someone with a mechanical gauge to varify the pressure is low. Is the oil level at the full mark? I have seen where the oil pickup tube o ring gets hard over time and cracks which can allow the oil pump to draw in air and cause low oil pressure. If you run the engine with very low oil pressure for any length of time there is a chance that the engine may need to be replaced due to lack of lubrication. The chevrolet dealerships still provide very good service. Hope this helps.

I suspect you have had an oil pump failure. To get at the rotory gear oil pump you will have to drop the oil pan. After you take the pan off, ( having drained the oil the oil pump is what the oil pick up line leads into. That pick up assy. is a round shaped disc with a screen inside it. Clean the screen first then the oil pump. Install new oil pan gasket on reassembly. Hope that helps you. Please let me know.

Hopefully the engine was not damaged when the pump broke. If it was you may need a complete engine rebuild, MAYBE.

Too much oil can increase the pressure that will eventually blow the gaskets from retainer rings. I am not sure what the pressure should be in your auto, i recommend you take it to a qualified mechanic...

If the oil is in good shape, less than 2000 miles then I would have the oil sensor checked for accuracy. You need to have this looked at because if this is really an oil pressure issue then you could be damageing your engine.
