Tire rod end left sidefrom gearbox is broken how do i dismantel

if its the outer tie rod than loosen the jam nut on the threaded part of the inner tie rod. You will then be able to unthread the outer tie rod from the inner. Count the number of turns and install the new one with the same number of turns.

If its the inner tie rod you will need an inner tie rode remover/installer tool and a torque wrench.

How do i replace the outer tie rod on my van

Very simple. 1. Remove the front wheel 2. Take the proper size wrench and loosen the nut on the tie rod and rack and pinion 3. Remove the cotter pin from the castle nut where the tie rod goes through the spindle(hub assembly) 4. Remove the castle nut and hit the area where the joint goes through until the shaft comes loose with a hammer 5. spin the outer tie rod off counting the number of spins 6. Reverse this procedure to install. If you need the inner tie rod(inner socket), let me know and I should be able to find a diagram and instructions.

How does it come apart

The inner tie rod assembly just unthreads like a bolt, if you have the proper tool. After paying $117.49 for this gold plated tool i discoverd they are loaned out by some parts stores. if you ask. By the way the torque spec for the tie rod is 70 ft lbs.

How too change inner tierod on 2005 pontiac g6

If you have electric steering(no power steering pump)you have to change the entire steering gear assembly as no part is available. If you have the system with a pump a part is available. In order to change the inner tie rod you would loosen the 21mm lock nut on the tie rod.remove the 18mm nut on the outer tie rod and spin off after removing the outer tie rod from the steering knuckle.Remove the nut and the inner and outer clamps on the tie rod boot.remove the boot. You would then need a special inner tie rod tool to turn the threaded inner rod from the steering gear.

Torque spec's: 75 nova steering components

I looked in an old Motor book, competitor to Chilton, and it gives no special torques or instructions for front end parts. It just says tighten. From experience I always tightened them with a 3/8 socket wrench until they stopped turning using just my arm strength. Never loosen to put in a cotter pin. Hope this helps.
