Sounds like you removed the belt prior to drawing a diagram or taking a picture of how the belt runs. Can you add more detail information of your vehicle like does it have power steering, A/C, and if water pump runs off same belt ?

In most cases there is one tensioner that is spring loaded, you use a tool to push or pull the tensioner away from the belt to release the tension.
Make sure you have a diagram of how the belt is routed before you remove it.

Warnings and recommendations Unless otherwise advised by the manufacturer, the following procedures are recommended: Always fit a new timing belt after removal Check the tensioner and idler pulleys; renew if necessary Never turn the engine in the direction opposite to that of normal operation Check the belt(s) for cracks, fraying, wear and oil contamination Note: The engine must be cold before timing belt adjustment Note: Avoid bending, torsion or traction General Before disconnecting the battery cable, check the audio system security code
Always check the timing marks before timing belt removal Removal Disconnect the battery Remove the radiator upper hose Remove the fuel filter unit Note: Do not disconnect the hoses
Remove the engine mount
Remove the bracket Remove the right front wheel Remove the air-conditioning drive belt Remove the ancillary drive belt Remove the ancillary drive belt tensioner Remove the coolant pump pulley Remove the crankshaft pulley Remove the timing cover(s)
Align the timing marks Loosen the tensioner

On the Serpentine Belt: Scroll down the Link Page to Diagram G00323207, it shows the Tensioner.
1. Loosen the Pulley Lock Nut - identified as "A"
2. Loosen the Adjustment Bolt - identified as "B"
3. The Tensioner Pulley should move up and slightly to the left, loosening the belt enough to remove.

Installation is the reverse of the above.
Note on Diagram G00323206 the deflection tolerance at the 22 lbs pressure on the belt.

There is a tensioner pulley for each belt, you loosen the nut on the front of the pulley, then there is a tensioner bolt that you loosen, that will move the pulley away from belt to remove the belt. You'll need to get to them from the passenger side under the car. You'll need to remove the plastic covers to get them.

It is below the power steering pump pulley, there is a nut in the middle of the pulley that you loosen and then loosen the tensioner bolt to move the pulley away from the belt.

Loosen the belt tensioner with a prying tool. it has a strong spring that tightens the belt. remove the old belt. When you install the new one. use the same method to replace it. You may see the diagram (Most cars have it) under the hood to tell you how it is wound around the components.
