Question about Pontiac Sunfire

Can't seem to get a caliber bled out, it almost feels like there is an obstruction. I put a new caliper,pads and rotor on but ? Pedal doesn't drop when you open the bleed screw... what am I missing

2004 sun fire 2.2 ecotec. Brake lines go from master cylinder into a box? Then out to the wheels

Pump the brakes 25 to 30 times before trying to bleed brakes. abs has to be disabled before it will alow fluid to rear

    yes it disables it so the brakes can be bleed. the car cannot be running

Have no brake pressure, pedal goes straight to floor, put on new calipers and pads and bled the lines but I am no better off.


Sounds like a bad brake booster. To test, pump up the brakes with the engine off. While holding the brake pedal down,start the car. The brake pedal should drop a couple of inches and hold. If it doesn't, replace the booster.

Just replaced rotors, calipers, caliper brackets, and pads. Bled all four wheels, starting with the farthest away from the master cylinder working my way to the closest. Brake pedal feels firm when car...


Bleed with the car running and make sure all the air is out. Now make sure there is no leak and the pad contact are adjusted without much gap so that the calipers hold on. make sure the servo assist is correct, if so and the master cylinder was set right , it must work. Please recheck all your work once again to trim up.

Brake pedal goes to floor.......pads, rotors and calibers are new, lines have been bled.


Sounds like it is not completely bled. I would bench bleed the master cylinder first and then bleed to whole system again. The calipers take quite a bit of fluid and it sounds like you may have ingested air during the bleeding process. Start from the left rear and then right rear, then right front and then left front. Make sure you keep the master cylinder full during bleeding because it can **** air if low and you will not notice. It takes a while to do it correctly unless you have a pressure bleeder.

I cant seem to get the calipar back on the new pads


The new pads are much thicker than your old ones, so you need to get a large C-clamp, like a 5" clamp, open it up, put it over the caliper with the top of the clamp on the back of the caliper and with the screw adjustment of the clamp on the piston of the caliper. Tighten the clamp slowly and evenly, as you may have to move it from side to side of the piston to keep the piston even as it goes back into the caliper. Go back till it is flush with the caliper housing, then you can release the clamp, and the claiper will fit over the new pads. But now remember, you will have to pump the brake pedal several times when finished in order to close the piston back tight to the pads. This can be done with the car running or shut off. The pedal will feel soft and go right to the floor, but after you pump them several times, it will get hard again. Good Luck.

How to change rear break pads on 2002 saturn l200


remove the two caliber bolts that hold it to the bracket,use a screw driver to put inside inspection hole and pull towards outside of car,now you can pull it off,pop the pads out ,put the new ones in,take a large pair of water pump pliers and compress the caliber piston back in the caliber the whole way,put caliber back on reinstall bolts and then do the other side,before starting car pump brake pedal back up this will push the piston back out against pads then you will have a full pedal again,

Pistons in both front calipers stay out, both calipers replaced


You may have a leak in the booster or master cylinder. You can put a pressure tester on the system to test for leaks. It does sound like you have an air leak.
You can try to bleed the master cylinder, then slave cylinder, then brake lines.

ABS braking


have you check? the master cylinder. sometine when you get the rotors cut they dont come out right because they may be warped or to thin. if you did the job yourself you might have put the calipers in on the wrong side. this happens alot . if your rotors front and rear are fine then switch the calipers to the other side.
