Replace the radiator overflow cap $8-10). Its pressurized and if the seal is worn it will cause it to loose the cooalnt

there could be an air lock in either lines, you will have to loosen off a line at the rear heater and bleed the air out.

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix gxp overheats after only driving 10 to 15 miles the ac off for engine protection comes on then coolant hot mil comes on. What is the best suggestion for this fix?


First check to see if fan motors are working. If they are then sounds like new thermostat And after you put in new thermostat don't forget to bleed the air out of system with engine running. Bleed screws should be on manifold on front of engine. If you don't bleed the air out then it will overheat. I had same problem but the only thing I forgot to do after changing coolant and thermostat was bleeding the air. Good luck

2001 aztec, new thermostat...over heats in winter, and when speed reduced blows cold air. Plenty of antifreeze. Any ideas what could be wrong?


YOU HAVE TO BLEED THE LINES THE ARE TWO NIPPLES ONE BY THE THERMOSTAT AND ONE BY THE WATER PUMP. YOU HAVE AIR IN THE LINES THE AIR BUBBLES BUILD UP IN FRONT OF THE THERMOSTAT AND PREVENT IT FROM ORENING ANY TIME YOU OPEN THE RADIATOR CAP OR ANYTHIN YOU MUST BLRRD THEM LINES YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DO IT A COUPLE TIMES BUT A RELATIVELY EASY FIX

Do i have to bleed the coolant on my 1993 thunder bird after i replace the thermostat


ok theres no bleeding coolant but bleeding the brake lines and replace coolant to full mark and run car so the thermostat gets hot and opens and then will need to add more water or coolant

I have a problem with the car overheating. I have had the thermostat replaced, water pump replaced radiator pulled flowed and tested and it still runs hot. I am out of ideas.


the only two things left would be the ect or you have air stuck in the line...MAKE SURE you crank the car and bleed the air from the line with the ac on...I see this many times....but its not preperly bled of air and will cause it to overheat,crank the car,cut the ac wide open,then while the feeder screw removed from the expansion tank allow it to run and u should see air bubbles coming from the hole where the bleeder screw was...once the bubbles stop then put the plastic bleeder screw back into the feeder line.Now finally check the ect coolant sensor connection...if the connection is not good then it will show a overheating reading.Its located at the top of the engine coolant piping that houses the thermostat...try these...one way to tell if the sensor works is if you have the car running,then unplug the sensor it should make the temp reading show hot immediately.Let me know...

Sounds like the thermostat needs replacing. Doesn't seem to be opening all the way. You can check it by putting it in a pot of hot water and watch to see if it opens all the way.

05 Jaguar s-type is overheating? I thought it was a hose that was loose I reattach it and its still running hot


it could be one of several things causing the problem,
faulty thermostat
faulty water pump
blocked radiator
blown head gasket
cracked head
timing
take the car to a radiator repairer and have the cooling system checked, they will tell you what the problem is in a short period of time

Are you sure that the spring side of the thermostat is toured the engine/ look for a bleeder near the top highest spot in a line or hose that may be able to release the air it may even be near the water pump side.on some water pumps for the ford's the pumps will bolt on and look almost the same but the fins on the impeller are the opposite.clock wise instead of counter clock wise or vice vars. you my wont to check with your parts supply store to see if that is possible.hope this helps give you some ideas.feel free to ask again if you would like any further assistance.thank you for asking fixya . How to replace a 2005 pontiac sunfire thermostat


Should be in a housing just at the motor end of the upper radiator hose. Trace the upper hose down under the alternator.

Pull the hose off (be sure you have a way to catch the coolant first!) Then you unbolt the thermostat bolts and pull out the thermostat. REMEMBER which way it goes---the part with the "nose" points toward the radiator. Then clean both surfaces of the housing really good, and put on a new thermostat gasket. You can seal it with some light white grease, but just enough to make the gasket stick. Don't use goopy silicone sealant! Tighten the bolts but don't go crazy. Just enough to strain the muscles in your arm using a 3/8 drive wrench. Do NOT put your back into it. NICE and SNUG. Now you have to fill up the plastic reservoir tank. Then you run the engine for for just 30 seconds or so, then shut it off. Now you have to find the BLEED SCREWS and open them up so as to let air out of the cooling system. Then close the air bleeds. Repeat this filling up and running the engine briefly until coolant comes out of the air bleeds. Then top off the reservoir tank.

I think one air bleed is by the pipe where you put in the oil. Once you find it, look for another one like it. Sorry I don't have a manual for your car.
