Hi bud, dose your power steering make a noise when you turn the wheel while driving ? if so then you need to top up the bowel under the bonnet, But i think it is your steering drive belt that is slipping due to it being loose or oily , (if oily then use soapy water or vinigar and wipe the belt and pullys) ,i had th same problem on a 230 merc, undo the bolt /bolts that secure the "P S" unit and pull it untill the belt is taught, then quickly tighten up the bolt / bolts.,, hope this helps.

Check the power steering fluid level, a line may have been removed on the power steering to get to the alternator but it may not have been put back on or topped up again. I presume the power steering drive belt is still in place.

How to chan,s power steering fr0m car to car

No bleeding required, just top up oil after the job is done. It will make a noise for a short period of time until the air is gone.
Fill reservoir, move steering wheel without running engine 2-3 times from left end to right end. Start engine, steer again. Keep toping up oil until the level is not going down again at running engine. Road test and check oil again. Done

Power steering light will not go out and no power steering, tried switching engine off and on again can you sudgest anything?

Most likely suggestion would be a broken power steering pump belt. Otherwise you may have lost your power steering fluid. Check the both. If you are out of power steering fluid you will have to look for a leak. If it is neither of these then there is a problem with, most likely, the pump.

2006 Chevy Cobalt. My power steering goes out.

It sounds like the power steering motor is overheating pre maturely. Changing the motor should take care of the problem. What really happens is the motor reports to the power steering module that it is over heating and the module is shutting power to the motor down, the motor is actually no overheating.
