ok with any engine there are numbers near the intake manifold telling you witch one is number one and so on so what you need to do is first find them then at the number one spark plug take the plug out and crank the engine clockwise using a wrench on the bottom end of the motor slowly turning it place a finger over the spark plug hole and as you turn the shaft on the bottom end you will suddenly feel pressure trying to push your finger away listen for the pessure to make a poof sound and as soon as it does stop turning , next use a skinny screw driver and gently place the end inside the spark plug hole aiming down to see if the piston is all the way up, know take the distributer cap off and see where the router points , that will be number one and thats where you put the spark plug wire on the cap at then going clockwise see where number 2 is on the block and put that wire on then 3 and so on till all 4 or 6 or 8 or 10 or well you get the picture.

How do I replace my rotor and cap


there should be three 8mm bolts holding the cap in place. remove those and the cap should come off the rotor is just pushed on. pull on the old one and it should pop off. the cap should be numbered so putting the wires back on should be no problem. If you need some more help PM me!

There are two screws to hold the cap on, remove them, and pull the cap off with the wires still on it. Then you will see the rotor on the post under the cap, this pull straight up and off. The new one slides right down in place. Then take one plug wire off at a time and put it on the same position on the new cap.

Doesn't really matter where number one wire goes as long as the firing order is in the correct order. I find it easier just to pull and put one plug wire on at a time.

How to change distributor and rotor on 1995 chevy blazer


If you're talking about the distributor cap and rotor. I dont know what size engine you have, but it's pretty much the same. Mark your wires with a piece of tape and write a number on each one. When you remove the wire from the cap, ONE AT A TIME, mark that location on the OLD cap with the same number. (you can remove them and immediately put them on the new cap IN THE SAME LOCATION, but it can get in the way) After all the wires are off, take the two screws out of the base of the cap and lift up on it.

Now...Take the two caps and place them next to each other, and mark the new cap exactly as you did the old cap.

Leave them there for a minute. Go back and take the 2 screws out of the rotor. Place the new one in place and tighten,first making sure you have it in the right position. Look at the bottom. There should be a square prong, and a round prong. They're there to make sure you don't put it on backwards.

Go back and get the cap from where you left it and put it back on in the same position. Put the wires back on starting with the last one you took off and work your way back to number 1.

Don't be afraid to take a picture of it before you start. Just because.

Lis the engine getting fuel and spark? If it is then the problem is the distributor is off. Bring the number 1 piston up to top dead center. The first piston on the passenger side of the engine. Then align your distributor for before number one on the cap. When you slide the distributor into place it should line up with number one on the cap. Mark number one on the distributor with a marker. The cap is marked for number one. Put it all back together and the engine should fire up. Then time the engine

After putting gas in my car the car will start but will not idle


Try leaving the gas cap off after the next time you fill her up. A car's gas tank has to vent when gas vapors expand in the tank. Usually there's a valve in the gas cap.

Conversely once you fill your car up, and then burns fuel, if it isn't able to **** a little air in, then it'll VACUUM LOCK. Kinda like when you have a straw in a Coke, then you put you finger over it, and lift it out? The Coke stays in the straw until you release your finger off it. In this analogy the Coke is the gasoline and the cup is your engine.

If the gas tank can't draw any air in, then it won't allow the fuel to flow.

This is the simplest thing I can think of to check. Other than that, it could be a problem with any of the fuel/air electronics.

1987 GMC Jimmy Distributor cap and Rotor replacement


A diagram may not be needed as its a reasonably easy fix to do on your own.the distributor ca p will only fit on properly one way because at the base of the cap locaters can only fit the distributor if they line up.When doing the spark plug leads do them one at a time and if nessecary write or mark leads as 1,2 etc .The rotor can only fit on one way but put a mark on the distributor to show where the rotor was pointing when you took it off and if it still points there when the new one is fitted.When changing distributor cap and leads they have to go to the correct place.Pays to mark the outside of distributor cap where the locating bits are On the new and old one.Fit the new cap and rotor then take a spark plug lead and fit to new cap 1 at a time.You can tell by lining up the marks on the outside of the distributor cap when you hold them one on top of the other.Good luck
