SOURCE: I need to check my

there is really no need to change the transfer case oil other than not having anything else to do and it is very hard to get it out.. putting it in on the other hand .. you will have a recessed bolt in the top on the transfer case it looks like a 1/2 inch drive extension will go in.. back that out and put your finger down in the hole if you can't touch fluid it is low. go to local auto parts and ask for 90 weight transfer case oil.. if you tell them what type vehicle they will give you the right oil. probably need spout to get it in the hole.. secure nut back on and your done.. good luck ray

Go buy the chevrolet shop manual for the truck. Its worth every penny in the long run and will save you thousands by not going to the dealer for everything, because they consult the shop manual. make sure your tranny doesnt share fluid with your transfer case, you could over fill or underfill it easily.

SOURCE: What kind of fluid do i need for my transfer case

It depends on what transfer case you have in your vehicle. There are 4 different types. The best way to tell is go into the glove box and on the bottom there is a small decal sticker about the size of a credit card it will have the info you need.Look for the NP codes i.e.NP8.NP1,NP2,NP3or NP8.I`ll give you the G.M.part numbers.NP1,NP2,and NP3, are the same 88861800.NP8 takes Auto-Trak 2 12378508.They take 2 quarts.Hope this helps.Good luck.

SOURCE: what type of oil do i need for a 1995 chevy

The transfer case uses two types of oil one is automatic fluid the front part of differential takes gear oil 85/120 wt. both differentials I would use synthetic oil and would run 85/120 however if the rig has been well used you might want to go with a higher weight oil oil so you don't get wheel seal leaks.

The transfer case has a label on it with all the info

Trans is should be a 4L60E ,you got the year & can count

Don't be swapping parts with other peoples junk

If you have trans or transfer problems, keep yours &

What kind of oil goes in the transfer case

It depends on your transfer case

spicer 18 and 20 takes 80W-90 gear oil
dana 300 takes 85W-90 gear oil.

I personally don't think it would matter either way if you put 85 or 80. They both lube well. Thats my opinion.

1998 blazer 4x4. Not sure if shift solenoid issue or transmission control module. Truck died no engagement in any gear no fluid pumped. Thought old 4l60e pump quit (had a pump or converter whine when I...

Even if all the electronics were dead you still should have movement in some gear, usually reverse and 2nd. If you put the transmission in park [and have both back tires off of the ground a bit] can you turn the rear driveshaft by hand? If so then the transfer case isn't connecting the driveshaft to the transmission. If the driveshaft won't turn then you know it''s connected internally and can look elsewhere. Only other thing I can think of is possibly the front pump in this 4L60E may be damaged and not capable of pumping any oil. You could disconnect one of the cooler lines and see if it pumps any oil out with the engine running. No oil means no pump action. Hope this helps a bit and good luck!

1996 Tahoe trans trouble code 1870?

sounds like the clutch packs are worn out or not enough oil pressure engaging the first gear clutch pack.

I need to change the oil in the transfer case but i dont know what kind to use or how much.

your transfer case does not use regular motor will use gear oil which can be purchased at any local parts store or even wal-mart (most part stores can tell you how much you need to add to the unit but a good rule of thumb is add the gear oil until it starts to drip out the fill/check hole..

What kind of oil do I put into the transfer case? Is that why the computer keeps saying check 4 wheel drive?

no, DO NOT use gear oil. The transfer case uses the same type of automatic transmission fluid that the transmission uses. Is the display saying "service 4x4 switch"? If so it is common and the 4WD indicator light switch is bad and needs replaced. It's only purpose is to tell the driver info center what 4 wheel drive mode the transfer case is in. This switch will not affect the function of the 4 wheel drive. The correct fluid for the transfer case is +4 automatic transmission fluid.
