If you are wanting an engine swap find out the production start and finish years for your specific model. Wikipedia can be useful for this. Engines between those years should fit.
You will probably have to use the same fuel type engine to get it to fit more easily, for example swap diesel for diesels day petrol for petrol.

there is no differance a diesel has a high stall torque converter in 1990 you could get 308 ,327,373 410 gears the 308 are a desert gear meaning great gas mileage 410 the motor will turn at high RPM's But you don't have to do anything it is perfectly ok hope this helps CJ
