double check , crossing is easy if you cannot see the routing planely . Did you have the cap off , if so is it sitting propperly, down all the way , if it is slightly ascue it will run funny .

Sounds like you have the firing order right but your off on the #1 on the distributer. Every time you get an explosion coming from the carb its misfiring. Find the #1 on dist and continue with firing order

Passenger side front to rear 2,4,6,8, driver side 1,3,5,7. Distributer rotates clockwise. Number 1 is usually marked on the cap.
Leads for distributor cap should be connected as illustrated.
RH - Right Hand side of engine, when viewed from rear.
LH - Left Hand side of engine, when viewed from rear.

OK lets have some history, did this happen all of a sudden, or after its been messed with? Number one is left front cylinder. Take the spark plug out and hold your finger over th ehole, now slowly have someone BUMP the eng over, when you feel air pushing your finger out, find you timing mark, Now line up the timing mark, about 10 BTDC an dtake the cap off, where the rotor is pointing is number ONE. Usually about the 5 oclock position. Counter clockwise. If this just happened without you messin around, you might have timing chain issues.
