Replace the glow plug relay its faulty.Hope that was helpfull.

Normally problems starting could be the glow plugs these warm the diesel up making ignition easier also check the wires going to glow plugs if only 1 of these are off it makes starting harder

Sounds like a faulty injector, had the same problem about 2 years ago cost over £1500 to have new injectors fitted.

It might be worth trying some redex or similar cleaning product incase its just blocked.

Your glow plugs should warm your engine enough to start ... you do have glow plugs, right?

You might want to appeal to your employer to allow you to plug your Jetta in at the job say mid afternoon or so.

Did you ever find a solution to this? I have a 2000 Hyundai Galloper (basically the same car) and I am having the exact same problem. I have replaced the glow plugs 3 times in the past 12 months.

2004 diesel hard to start when cold


It sounds more like the glow plugs, the older models had trouble out of the module, but the 6.0 is pretty safe from all those problems. And don't forget to use the correct fuel additive for diesel engines, it helps .
