SOURCE: abs & traction light on 1997 buick lesabre

This is a fairly common problem, Gm has actually issued a service bulletin regarding this repair. The problem probably originates from one of your wheel speed sensors that is mounted inside one of your front wheel bearings. To be sure, you need to have the car scanned to find out which one and then you have to replace the whole bearing assembly because the sensor is integral to the bearing. The bearing is not hard to do but you will need some professional tools if you want to do it yourself. At a shop it should cost between 3 and 400 dollars complete.

SOURCE: 2001 Buick Lesabre ABS light stays on even

What this means is that the abs module is seeing a problem in the abs system. This has nothing to do with the regular brakes. What you need to do is get the codes from the abs module and this will help in finding what could be causing the light to come on.When the abs light comes on the regular brakes will work normally but your abs brakes will be disabled.Let me know what codes you find and I can help or explain what the cause could be.Good luck.

This is the wire that goes to the car wheel. It is either lose or dirty. Try unplugging it and cleaning it with some electonic cleaner and then put it back on. It could also be a bad sensor that this plugs to.

i think you just have a bad abs sensor, most times when a mechanic checks a sensor they will tap on it to see if a warning light comeson or goes off, since you say it only does this when you hit a bump or pothole i dont believe anything is wrong, as long as your not hearing or feeling anything unusual i wouldnt worry about it, although i know a light coming on telling you something is wrong can be very annoying
