If you are loosing the heat generated by the exhaust will cause the turbo to loose power. That means a leakage. Check the engine oil level and quality too! Even if the engine overheats the check engine red light will come ON, so check the coolant level too..........sodeep

2004 jetta 1.8 turbo doesnt seem to be kicking in and the engine doesn't have much power. possible causes?

Have the car scanned for fault codes. A power loss in a turbo motor can be caused by simple vacuum leaks. You can check for loose piping and clamps. There are various components in that car that could cause such a problem. These include the turbocharger itself, the turbo boost (N75) valve, wastegate and its linkage, the car's ECU, maybe even a non turbo fault like a clogged catalytic converter or vehicle misfire.

My 1999 Toyota Rav, while driving, suddenly became difficult to steer...the peddles also stiffened up. The engine then cut off and the lights came on. Suggestions?

Difficult to steer:Possible power steering belt failure.

Bad alternator? Check voltage at battery.Needs at least 12 V. to enguage starter. Try jumping the battery from another vehicle.

1999 dodge mini van is making a loud clicking sound and the oil light is on

Make sure you have oil in the van. Add oil if needed. The noise is caused by lack of oil pressure as is the light. If you have sufficient oil, then you have a bad oil pump or the bearings are worn completely out. If you want to save this engine don't drive it untill it's figured out and repaired.

take the inter cooler pipe of turbo and try to move the fan or bolt inside the turbo, if you can then theres a problem with the bearing probably oil starvation parts of the fan will have been sucked through the engine so this could cause the smoke problem if the plastic is stuck in the exhaust valve check all oil lines and air lines, try getting some one to hold rag over exhaust pipe and look in engine bay if you can see smoke/exhaust gases coming from turbo unit then theres a leak somewhere,
its a complicated problem and without being there i cant really help anymore than that, sorry jezza

Check engine light on

Lots of different minor things could cause the check engine light to come on , even something as simple as a loose gas cap.
Most mechanics can plug in a diagnostic tool that will read a code from your computer that will tell them what is causing the light to come on.
This should not be an expensive test.

Check engine light comes on and goes...and no boost on turbo

all turbo vehicles can only make boost if induction system is sealed,at this stage rather than looking for a fault with actuator controls,i would check to see if all ducting(piping) is secure.from airfilter, intercooler, turbo etc to engine, just check that there are no leaks,if there are any loose, revving it on the spot to cut in turbo should cause a loud rushing of air.if this is all ok then we need to further.

Engne light on 1999 dodge carvan mini van Van runnnig sluggish

Check the large hose leaving the brake power booster (under the hood, directly in front of where the driver sits, large round diaphragm). That hose will run into the top of your engine, it may be off, or the hose may be cracked.
