Question about Jeep Cherokee

1 Answer

I just replaced the transmission and it is still slipping in drive. What would be the cause for this to happen? It ran for approx. 5 mins and the transmission started to get really hot so i put in an after market tranny cooler.

Why would my rpms run so high when i drive my caer is there a way to fix this ?

rpms run so high??? if the engine RPM rises real high driving in gear.
and the car dont move faster, in DIRECT Proportions.?
then that is called transmission slip (or clutch slip)
if how ever, the the above is not HAPPENING
then , that means the engine IDLE Controls are out of CONTROL
this is caused for 2 (macro) reasons.
1: Engine, is running very bad (50 causes) iSC is VICTIM here)
2; or Not THAT but is the ISC idle control bad or stuck.
#1 and #2 have many tests to find true cause, take ASE class and see, them all.

you burned up your P/S pump.
all that must be replaced, when any belt fails we check all pulleys
on that belt for seized parts. (hand spun, and or damage or in your case ignoring fluid loss.
then when running, we listen to it with a 5 buck stethoscope. for the right sound. dig? the bearings can be heard to go bad way before total death and destructing, sure can..

ISC = IDLE SPEED CONTROLLER.

Will not accelerate

will not accel, tells zero.
the engine has weak power?
or the transmission slips?
or will not up shift the 4 gears.

any mechanic can drive the car and in 5 min tell you which it is.

if the ENGINE RPM rises and the vehicle speed does not
increase in direct (transmission) relation to engine RPM then the transmission is slipping
or if the transmission does not upshift say so.
if the transmission is not slipping and will not ACCEL.
then the engine is bad, weak.

why not, take it to a shop and ask them to test it.
any ASE certified shop will tell you, some for free.

Need to fix the slipping on an automatic transmission

change the trany fluid and filter. get some lucas transmission treatment and put it in before you put your trany fluid in. after all fluids are in and everything is together start the vehicle and hold foot on brake and go through the gears it might slip a lil the first 5 min of driving or until fluid works through trany.

Using more rpm to maintain speed than before, cat converter and o2 sensor replaced within 6 months but peoblem showed up approx 2 months after r&r of parts, ran fuel treatment of injectors & fuel...

If the RPM is higher at any particular speed than before, the only cause could be that the transmission is slipping. Things like O2 sensors, Catalytic converters, fuel treatments, etc. have absolutely nothing to do with incresed engine (input) speed to axle (output) speed ratios.

Car slipped out of DRIVE position only revving the RPM's.

Tranny low on fluid. When you stop or turn it all goes to one side causing the problems.

You have to check the transmission fluid and replace the transmission fluid and filter.
