1999 Dodge Durango Transmission???

I have a 1999 Durango SLT 4X4 5.9L. On the highway coming home from work the other night, two lights lit up on the dash. The first was O/D off and then the TRANS TEMP light came on. I pulled off the highway as soon as I could and checked the fluid level, which was perfect. I tried to get it home because I couldn't afford to have it towed. I put the truck in drive and it seemed OK for about 50 feet...then it seemed like it slipped out of drive and into neutral. The engine reved at 4500 RPM but the truck wouldn't move. I coasted back over to the side of the road and shut the engine off. I let everything cool down for a little while then tried moving again. The same thing happened. I gave up and called for a flatbed. I tried getting the truck into my driveway (the flatbed dumped it on the street) and again, the truck started right up, but wouldn't move. I'm a single mom of 2 kids and I can't afford to get ripped off by a garage who is going to try to tell me that I need to have the transmission rebuilt or replaced. I don't think that it does. I never had a problem with it up until now...there was no warning. Could someone PLEASE tell me what it could possibly be?

There is two things that can be tested: If it is an automatic tranny
The modulator valve
and the torque converter lock up switch/relay. If they check out ok, then further checking needs to be done, in which case, I'm sorry to say, the tranny might need an over haul.
There is other possibilities
the torque converter itself, A valve could be stuck in the valve body, without testing it's hard to say for sure.

Testimonial: "The Durango ended up needing an overhaul due to a botched repair at some point before we bought it. Cost $1850. Ouch."

How to fix a flasher on 1999 dodge Durango slt magnum

More info needed. Do the brake lights work? If yes, then there are 2 possibilities: The the flasher on/off switch is bad or the flasher unit is bad. A parts store might let you try a flasher unit to see. They can also tell you where the unit is, if you don't know. In small towns, parts stores are more flexible and cooperative.
