2003 dodge durango overheating

I just got this car 2 weeks ago and exactly 7 days from purchasing it the check gauge light came on and it started overheating. Took it back to where i bought it and they replaced the thermostat. I got it at a buy here pay here place so that's prob about the most they are going to do to it. It ran well for about 4 days after getting the therm replaced but now it's doing the exact same thing. What should I do first?

I had the thermostat and clutch fan changed. Still overheated. Had coolant system flushed and water pump replaced. So far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed!

I had a similar problem. How many miles does it have? This occurred at around 5 years, 50000 miles I swapped the thermostat and it still overheated. I did the cooling system flush and found the water pump needed replaced. I called the dealer and it was still under warranty, it has a 6/60000 warranty I think. It only cost me $100.

I would have the cooling system serviced, complete backflush...the radiator could be so corroded it's beyond flushing and needs to rodded out or replaced... check the fan clutch for proper operation. Check the exhaust system...a plugged converter will create to much backpressure and cause over heating.
Too many overheats and your looking at potenial engine damage.
Good luck...i hope this helps, please rate me a fixya.

Check gages light is on

the check gauges light means exactly that, look at your gauges, there is something wrong, look all the gauges when the engine is running, usually the temp gauge is to high, is the vehicle overheating, is the check eng. light on, make sure all the gauges are reading normal, the check gauges light is there to get your attention, see what it wants.

Overheating 2003 dodge durango. What could be the problem??

When engine running, ensure no engine combustion gas bubbles in coolant resevoir (if so, the head gasket is blown).

Check cooling fans are operating ok (when required when car warms up), if not check
1) fuse,
2) relay operation,
3) heat sensor switch.

Replace thermostat.
When re-filling cooling system, bleed off any airlock as necessary.

Check for collapsing (soft) coolant hose on suction side of waterpump when engine revs above idle.

two probably thing , you have a pluged radiator or the fan clush is not good, if when you are cruising it doesn' t overheating , but when you stop for 2-5 minuts it does, then is the fan clush, if when cruising it overheating then is the radiator . all this thinking that you checked the cooland level and changed the termostat with the correct oness

Oil light flashing, last oil change 7 wks ago

I belive they didn't reset the oil light timer. I belive the sequence is 1. key on (not acc with engine off)
2. step on the brake pedal 5 times within 10 seconds. 3. key off. 4. start car. 5. check if the light went out. you may have to try it a few times to get it.

My 2000 Durango 4.7 liter V8 starts fine, runs fine, but dies when it comes to a stop. I had my software and module redone 3 months ago and about 2 weeks ago it started shifting slow and hard. Then today...

Could be a bad catalytic converter. Have the exhaust back pressure checked. Check the fuel pressure & if possible, drive with the gauge on & see what happens when it dies. If the pressure is good, then it's not fuel. Write back if you have more issues.

Take to Auto Zone and have the computer control module checked. Normally Auto Zone performs this service free. Or you could remove the computer modle and take it and have it checked.

None of my gauges, lights, power windows work all of a sudden

Check the computer system. I am having a similar problem and a buddy of mine said that is what was wrong with his 01 Jeep with the same indications.

Take it to Autozone, they do free diagnostics. They can point you in the right direction.
