Question about Mercedes-Benz 300-Class

1 Answer

My steering is making a hard sound as I turn the sterring wheel it soundsounds if I need to add fluid. Under the hood on the drivers side there is a resevoir that's low but I'm not sure if that is for the brakes.

Your car's power steering system is a hydraulic pressure assist system that helps to turn the wheels when you turn the steering wheel inside your car. The power steering fluid is contained in a reservoir in the engine compartment on or around the power steering pump(Usually on driver side area near the break fluid reservoir and master cylinder). Some reservoirs are see-through containers with level indicator marks. Others use a dipstick. This will determine how you check your fluid. You have stated that this reservoir is low. This will be the cause of the (Hard sound), you are hearing. i recommend filling the reservoir up to the fill line asap. this high pressure system can be damaged dramatically in this low fluid state. the entire pump will be ruined if the fluid level remains low.

If you are hearing a Whining sound or, clicking, this will confirm damage to the power steering pump gear assembly and seal.

Why my steering wheel makes a noise when I turn it side to side?

Assume the noise is coming from under the hood. If the noise only occurs at the far extreme turning point in both directions, this is normal as it is straining the power steering system. If the noise occurs all the time, check the level of fluid in the power steering reservoir. If low, probably a leaking hose or reservoir. Add power steering fluid to get level between min and max lines. Should make sound go away. If the noise does not go away and a flush of the system does not correct it, you may need a new power steering system, although this is pretty rare unless a leak has gone on for a long time with little or no fluid.
If noise is inside the car, one of the parts of the steering column or steering wheel may be bad.

Power steering pump replaced, start to work ok, after 10 milles driving, steering wheel is hard, like pump is not working, under hood everything look ok.

YOU HAVE AIR IN THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO BLEED POWER STEERING PUMP FIRST BEFORE DRIVING VECHICLE.CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID LEVEL ADD MORE POWER STEERING UNTIL REACH FULL COLD MARK..RAISE VECHICLE FRONT WHEELS OFF THE GROUND.START ENGINE LET IT IDLE WHILE TURNING STEERING WHEEL LEFT TO RIGHT NON STOP DONT LOCK OR STOP STEERING WHEEL KEEP TURNING IT SEVERAL TIMES CHECK POWER STEERING FLUID IF LOW ADD UNTIL YOU GET COLD MARK ON DIP STICK DONT OVER FILL POWER STEERING PUMP BLOW A SEAL.IF POWER STEERING FLUID LOOK TAN COLOR SYSTEM FULL OF AIR.TURN OFF IGNITION LET CAR SET FOR A WHILE CHECK FLUID LEVEL.IF STEERING WHEEL FEEL STIFF HARD TURNING DONT DRIVE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE NORMAL STEERING.IF STILL HAVE AIR IN SYSTEM BLEED SYSTEM UNTIL AIR IS OUT.

My steering wheel is really sticky when im making turns i throught it needed power steering fluid but that wasn't the case. Can anybody tell me what could it be?

Its the steering arm, under the hood drivers side, it connects the steering column shaft to the steering gear box. The small universals get really rusty. causes it to bind. don't try to lube them it doesn't work. About $50.00 from ford.

My 1997 pontiac Grand prix power sterring is gone and hard to turn i think it might be the pump or sterring whell fluid but cant find it help me please

You might want to check the power steering fluid. The resevoir is on the passenger side toward the passenger seat it is kind of hard to find. But i have a '97 Grand Prix and i noticed that whenever i would turn sharp while going pretty fast it would make a grinding noise and i could feel my steering wheel pulling me. But the thing is the power steering never whinned or anything. So i checked it and there was absolutely none in there. So check the fluids first.

Orange fluid leak (most likely power steering fluid)

Check your hoses around your power steering resevoir, you might have a pin hole leake in one of the hoses. Make sure to keep an eye on the fluid level. As long as you keep fluid in it you won't burn out the pump.

I cant find where to put the steering fluid at ?

The power steering pump/reservoir is down below the pass. side of the engine, right up against the firewall. Will have to reach down between firewall and 2 heater hoses to get to the cap.-

The power steering light is on in my 2007 Pontiac G5 Coupe

  • You have Electric Power Steering (EPS) not the traditional power steering pump. So there is no place to put power steering fluid in your vehicle.

  • Hope this helps.

Sqeeking noise only while turning steering wheel, only hear the noise inside-not outside.

check your power sterring fluid. the humbing noise is the gears inside moving. it sounds like it does not have enouph fluid in it causing it to humb.
