Why is my car blowing white/blue smoke after standing in idle for extended period. no smoke present while driving.

Hello Barry, Two causes for your problem comes to mind. Smoke after initial start up and/ or extended idle could mean bad valve seals. Some time ago I had a car with a leaking vacuum modulator on the transmission. Intake vacuum was sucking the trans fluid into the intake manifold. Your car may or may not have a transmission modulator. White smoke usually means it is burning engine coolant.

Shutting off and on blowing white smoke when shutting off

White smoke in exhaust is a sign of water getting into engine combustion process - does not burn and comes out as steam. Accounts for engine shut downs and steam in output.

There could be a crack in engine block or broken head gasket.

My car will crank up .after driving about a block it shuts down.when my car is still its also shaking.there is a thin white or maybe gray smoke coming from the tail pipe of my 1999 gram am.this was never a...

white/grey smoke USUALLY but not always means your fuel/air ratio is very lean meaning your car is trying to burn more air than fuel. If this started happening after you ran out of gas I would check the fuel filter. you probably sucked all the dirt from the bottom of your tank into the fuel filter and clogged it when you ran out. its the cheapest and easiest solution at this point

VW Golf 1994 died as if the key was turned off; will not restart.

Could be a head gasket leak as white smoke is a sign of water. I would suggest having it checked. It doesnt take alot to cause white smoke.

Ouch! you've got engine coolant in the exhaust from a leak somewhere...DO NOT run this engine until you get someone (dealer is best in this instance) to diagnose ($50-125)

My 300zx got smoke issue but im not sure.smoke come both sides when i start the car.it got little oil leak from turbos.but once engine got hot the smoke goes away.when driving it doesnt smoke.but it...

It sounds like you may need valve seals.
The oil sits in the head after the engine is cut off and leaks around the seals into the cylinder.
When you start the engine it burns the oil and sends the smoke out of the tailpipes.
It does not hurt anything much if it is not to bad.

White and gray smoke coming out back and underneath 1995 Chevy Bl

Too late to check now... you've got a blown head gasket. When the gauge starts to give you any indication that something's not right you must shut it down or this kind of thing happens. Could have started as a bad water pump, hose etc. With low coolant from that (or anything else) continued operation will kill the whole thing!...Sorry!!
