Question about Hyundai Motor 2003 Elantra

1 Answer

2003 Hyundai Elantra I was speaking one of my friends and I mentioned to him that my car sometimes makes backfiring noises when proceeding thru a red light and at stop signs. Sometimes it only happens at certain times of the day. Any reason for that. I also mentioned that the gas filter was never changed and he recommeded me to do that which I will be doing within the next 7 days. Do you think this will now solve my problem. Also is my Catylic converte rconverted? Is my timign on my timing belt off also?

Is the check engine light on? If it is, take the car to an autoparts store and have them use a scan tool to retrieve any fault code(s) that are stored in the car's computer. Most parts stores offer this service at no charge. The fault code(s) will help identify problems/potential problems. That's better than guessing. Hope this helps you and best wishes.

My 2004 hyundai elantra just started dying out of no where sometimes it runs just fine sometimes it just jerks like its going to die and sometimes it actually dies not sure whats goin on???

My friend had this problem with her Hyundai 2003 Sante Fe...just dying out. And I did some research for her. There was one particular forum, where I Googled the make and model, year of the vehicle that came up where a few people had this problem. And the problem isn't picked up by the dearler's computer test. The part was the EGR solenoid control valve. Maybe that's a place to start?

2003 Hyundai Elantra can the car fail inspection if your check engine light came on a few times in the last month and 1/2. The light didn't stay on long though Will spark plugs making a backfiring noise...

Until you verify which codes occured, your guess is as good as mine. Whenever the 'CHECK ENGINE' light comes on, the ECU (Engine Control Unit) sets a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC). These codes identify the particular engine management system which caused the light to come on.
You'll need to use/find an OBDII (On-Board Diagnostic) Scanner to retrieve any code which have been stored in the ECU computer. Afterward, we might be able to help you DIAGNOSE and perhaps eventually fix the problem.

The vehicle speed sensor is probably faulty. Have it checked. it's mounted on the side of the tranny.

If a timing belt is not put on properly and its causing your car to make backfiring noises can it cause problems to your car?

not usually if it's running and backfiring. A timing belt on certain cars when it breaks can cause major damage because the valves stop and the pistons continue to move up and down can hit the valves bending the valves and even shattering the piston. You need to align the timing marks on the crankshaft and the camshaft for it to run properly

I am still having problems with my 2003 Hyundai Elantra making backfiring noises. I just had a fuel injection cleaning that cost nearly $90 performed and the problem is still there. Some of you have said...

Backfiring is caused by timing , bent or burnt valves. If the timing belt was replaced but not put on correctly, you will have this problem. The marks MUST be aligned correctly.

2003 Hyundai ELantra shifts hard sometimes after proceeding thru a stop sign or a red light. My mechanic says my car is fine drived for 20 minutes the noise don't occur. Later in the night the noise is...

is the shifting due to the transmision? or the engine? i had a friend who's car did something simular, diffrent car though and a older model. turns out, it indeed was the fuel pump, when they thought it was the tranny. try some Lucas for the transmission. if that dont help then i would let the mechanic drive it.

2003 Hyundai Elantra It sounds the backfiring

At first blush, sounds like the knock sensor making the car misfire. Other possibilities are:
  • fouled spark plug; might not notice it at idle but would misfire at higher speeds; check the plugs as well as the valve cover gasket for oil seepage
  • if you've noticed a sulphur smelling exhaust or excessive heat from the exhaust, it could be the catalytic converter (more likely if there is high mileage on the car). Another symptom would be very bad performance and poor gas mileage.
