You must perform an engine control module fault code test as well as test the fuel pressure, if no codes are present and fuel pressure is ok check for a defective camshaft drive belt.

Does it crank at all? Or do you mean the engine turns over but never starts. Different places to look depending on what is happpening. If the starter engages but there is just a whirling sound (not like it normally sounds), the timing belt may have broken.

running low on fuel with a electronic fuel pump is not a wise idea that can cause the fuel pump to run dry and lock up!! also can airlock the fuel lines check the fuel filter to see if it's clogged up! also losen the fuel line at the filter and crank the engine to see if its pumping if not then change the pump
crank angle sensors and ignition modules, ignition coils that are faulty behave like this when faulty try pouring water over crank sensor when it stops and see if it starts after being cooled down if it restarts then you found which is faulty.
