not car smart ?
and no photo of your ENGINE so we both fail

crude video, but is for folks with near zero tools
or shows you clearly why you dont want to do this.

so get car fixed
use a real mechanic.
see why?

the DIS engine started in July 1997 (mfg, date)

so your does have a distributor (google that please)
but 1997 is also a big change, a new engine
end to end. july 1.

no photo of your engine, means NO JOY.
we can not guess engines
or what spark system used due to huge changes
in 1997, all related to USA smog laws.

Car ran outof gas. put gas in, would not start. checked fuel pump, is pumping fuel. replaced fuel filter, replaced plugs, replaced wires, checked for pressure on fuel rail valve, got it (did not check...

Perhaps your fuel injectors are not opening properly to release the air pressure in the fuel rail and the fuel is unable to get in. With the vehicle off, remove the cap from the Schrader valve (the same kind of valve used on tires) in the fuel rail, then depress the pin in the center of the valve with a small screwdriver. CAUTION: this may be under high pressure (some vehicles have 90 PSI systems), and there probably will be gasoline in there. Make sure there are no ignition sources present (no smoking!) and wear safety glasses. If you get only air or nothing comes out, put the cap back on the valve and try to start the car one more time. If that doesn't work, your fuel pump was probably damaged when the tank went dry.

I have a 1996 chevy cavalier LS 2.4 liter. a few years ago someone poured sugar in the gas tank but the car still ran ok. about a year after that the fuel pump went out. I removed the gas tank and had...

was the fuel filter changed. and you should also check plugs and wires.for a missfire problem. if you dont get proper spark to plugs, it will misfire and be sluggish. have a good day !!

Car won't start. Just replaced fuel pump. Any ideas what could be wrong?

jaguar had a problem with their fuel rails rusting out from the inside filling the little screens in the top of the fuel injectors blocking the flow of fuel. I ran into this problem several times and solved it by replacing the fuel rail and cleaning the injectors. Don't know if this is your problem but it is a suggestion based on my past experience. I am assuming you have good ignition and have a fuel delivery problem. You might try disconnecting the feed pipe from the fuel rail and seeing if there is any fuel pressure there. If there is pressure, check the fuel rail. Also you might spray a little starting fluid into the air cleaner to see if it fires up. If it does and then dies you know for sure you have a fuel problem. Good luck!

2001 Silverado, won't restart after it is warmed up, let it set for 20 mins and it will. I have recently replaced the fuel pump..still won't start when engine is warm. ? help

If you replaced only the fuel pump and not the whole assembly this could be the issue. I had the same issue in mine altough it is a far different GM vehicle. What was happening was the check valve in the tank was allowing the fuel pressure to leak down. Then, with the heat in the engine compartment, the fuel was boiling in the fuel rail. just like an old fashioned vapor lock. I knew what was happening after a while but didnt know why. I would leave the hood up so heat could not build up (that would be a good test). then I went to the junk yard and bought the outer part of the fuel pump. (has the guage sending unit on it). that fixed it.
