01 T & C radio will not stay on

I'm not sure what radio option you have in your vehicle or if you have any aftermarket equipment installed to interface radio functions or operations. But if it is the Mark Levinson set up, the software that controls the the function that you are having problems with, is possibly corrupted and radio may need to be reprogrammed at the dealer with new updates/calibrations so it can stay in communication with radio amplifier and all other options including the HVAC system controls. For being a 01' model, this car was way ahead if its time!

aperently it shuts down because of voltage fluctuations while starting..the battery goes from 13.6-8 down to around 10 volts or 9.5 which most electronics cant operate on..try this..leave the radio off until startup is done.. and for power come off of the lighter circuit that stays on all the time.. use the radios power lead and the memory together with a 5 amp fuse and a separate switch for power until the car is running..the only drawback is resetting the clock and station memory each time..

Yes it can be Amp problem,but there are many other possibilities like loose connection,radio wires getting short.

You can either replace the radio or unplug it from the wiring harness. You can find removal procedures on youtube.

I'm Going To Assume You HGav The 3.2L Opal Engine. These Were Most Common For The Crangshaft Position Sensor Failling When Hot, Causing A Stall. When The Vehicle Stalled The Sensor Would Cool & The Engine Would ReStart. This Would Repeat Over & Over, & Over...
If You Have Access To A Scan Tool, Check For DTC P0335, If It Does Even As History, Replace The CKP Sensor First.

If your vehicle has the GM Passkey system, it is possible the security lockout has been engaged. The way to reset the Passkey system is as follows.
1.Turn the key to the ignition "on" position (but do not start the engine) and leave it in the on position for 10 minutes. After the ten minutes has passed, turn the key to the off position.
2. repeat the above step 2 more times. This will take about 30 minutes.
3.Do not attempt to start the vehicle or use any accessories while performing this reset procedure.

Theft-Deterrent Feature
THEFTLOCK is designed to discourage theft of your radio. Your vehicle has a “built-in” theft-deterrent feature on each radio that is automatic -- there is no programming required. The radio in your vehicle cannot be used in any other vehicle. When the radio was originally installed in your vehicle at the factory, it stored the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Each time the ignition is turned on, the VIN is verified. If the vehicle’s VIN does not match the VIN stored in the radio, THEFTLOCK will be activated and the audio system will not play. If the radio is removed from your vehicle, the original VIN in the radio can be used to trace the radio back to your vehicle.

I suggest check in your Catera Owners Manual the FUSES position 6 and 26 for RADIO.



Also, other experts comment that, when servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition / Concern:
Radio inoperative with key on, auto door lock feature disabled, a/c compressor does not engage and DTC U1255 stored in the radio. Radio may work in rap or accessory until the door is opened.

Recommendation / Instructions:
Cause: Clamp 15A, fuse #10, 10 amp fuse blown to the BCM/PZM, terminal A11. This fuse is normally powered in run and not during cranking. When this fuse is blown, the BCM acts as though it is in the crank mode with the key on. The BCM turns the radio off via CLASS 2 and inhibits auto door lock operation. The HVAC control head inhibits a/c compressor operation.

CORRECTION:
1. Replace the 10AMP #10 fuse.
2. Check the heater water pump located at the right wheel well area for a leak. Also, check the auxiliary pump located on the left side of the radiator support for a leak. If either pump is leaking, coolant may be dripping onto a connector for this fused circuit which may cause a short to ground condition.
3. If both pumps are okay, install in-line fuses rated less then the fuse in question for each component affected to isolate the failed circuit.

something big happened to blow a 120 amp fuse. The vehicle needs some time at a good shop.

check all the fuses.the radio is designed to stay on until you open the door once the vehicle is shut off ,so the radio and the locks are linked together.there is a low current 7.5 amp fuse or very close to that
