Question about GMC G3500
If the gauge indicates the low pressure this could mean:
A.Engine could have low oil level B.Broken oil pump pressure relief spring C.Excessive bearing clearances
If the gauge indicates the high oil pressure this could mean:
A.The engine oil pressure sender has failed (common) B.The engine oil pump could have a stuck pressure relieve valve
To check for these conditions a manual oil pressure gauge is needed. Locate the oil pressure port near the engine oil filter. Remove the sender or switch and install the oil pressure gauge. Start the engine and observe the gauge. If the gauge reads a normal pressure, thsi will confrim a sender issue. if the pressure fluctualte while using the manuakl tester like before, this will confrim oil pump failer. replace the oil pump in this case. I will list the senders test procedure below.
