HI, this can be caused by a bad rings set or, improper rod bearing clearances as well. The cylinder walls may be worn, due to the bad ring set in this case, in return, causing oil consumption. i would also check Head gasket(s) and, PVC valve as well.

Why would a mpg read the same in town or on highway?

If you were doing short trips on the highway then it would be similar to a long trip in town!

Why does my 1999 supercharged vt commodore when im traveling down the highway idle up and down when i take my foot off the gas

It may be a problem with the TPS switch (Throttle Position Switch). Go to a local mechanic with a diagnostic tester to confirm.

We need help with an overheating problem on our 1999 Cadillac DeVille. We've replaced many parts and wonder if it may be air in the cooling system. Please help.

Could be.
Has the thermostat been replaced ?
You could run the engine without the radiator cap to see if the system has air pockets.
A restriction in the exhaust could cause the engine to run hotter on the road than on short trips.

I have a 2001 Toyota Highlander with 128,000 miles. It has started using oil on highway miles. When driving on a 12 hour trip, we had to add oil 3 times. I have always taken the vehicle to the Toyota...

have your dealer inspect it for leaks, with this kind of mileage your valve cover gaskets, oil pan sealer and seals start to develop leaks, also try to use a good quality oil because areation is worst with cheap oils,

Should you drive in overdrive all the time or just out on the highway

Hi. if your driving time consist of many hours in the city, it will not be required for you to use OD. You can use the regular D in the city, or around town. Using the regular D in town will decrease the unnecessary down shifting that will occur in OD if you are driving in town. The OD function is best used on the Highway, during long periods of travel.

It is also best to use the regular D when pulling up hill, or off road travel, as well.

My 2005 Endeavor with 60000 km burns 1 litre of oil every 1000 km at highway speeds, about half that around town. Is this a normal occurrence or is there a problem with the motor?

Not normal, clean burning engine, mine has 220,000 kms's. Are you using a full synthetic oil? Tried it a couple times and it took 1 litre between oil changes. I use semi synthetic oil, no issues. How long has it been burning this amount of oil? Get to your dealer and have him fix your engine.
