1999 dodge ram 4 x 4 dome lights came on.won't go off.
While driving dome light and one overhead map light came on. won't go off. Checked dimmer wheel on headlight control. unplugged door switches. Still on. What else could it be, a timer module stuck or dead?both map light switches in-operative before this occured. How is over head console removed to replace switches?

I have a buddy with a Jimmy and his lights did something similar, but once the dash illumination quit, nothing would make them come back on. We ended up replacing the entire light switch assembly, and it fixed it. We assume the dash illumination dimmer switch was shorted out. You may try getting a can of contact cleaner and taking the switch out and spraying all electrical connections related to your lighting to clean them up, THEN look into a new switch if that doesnt help. Hope this helped!!
check in the fuse panel for a blown fuse or a time delay relay to be blown out. if this checks out to be good, then you have a short in the wiring to dome light. also you may look inside the dome light socket for a blown light bulb or a short in the socket.
First, check the dimmer switch (should be the same as the headlight switch) and make sure it is not turned all the way to the right as that will turn on the overhead light. If you are sure the door switch is fine, then I would replace the dimmer switch.
chances are that your one of your auto locks have when out on you you can replace them with the manual locking type if you dont mind getting out and locking the hubs in. and a plus to manual locks is that they are much much stronger
If it's like my 96 Ram, the dome light and headlights share a relay switch. My dome light turned on with only my parking lights on and the replacing the relay took care of it.
