Question about 1998 Suzuki Sidekick

Wash engine and check light came on how do i know if a sensor is bad without doing diagnosis test, car now burns black and back firing, can the coolant sensor or the air sensor give problem after washing the engine.

Did you check the coil packs. If it leaks you can hear a small tick tick sound while engine is running or open the bonnet during night and start the engine and rev the engine . You can see from where it leaks from the sparks. please reply and rate.

    use a good water dispersent in a spray can & blow dry with compressed air!

My 2000 Silverado is running bad it started loosing power backfiring so I replaced roster button cap plugs wires didn't back fire but still run bad so I replaced gas filter still run bad


Have it tested with a scan tool ,check engine sensor data parameters ! Possible dirty or bad mass air flow sensor ,O2sensor ,Coolant temp sensor, map sensor etc... Check for vacuum leaks , Plugged fuel injectors , dirty throttle plate , also check fuel pressure . Is your check engine light lit ?

Gas in oil will not start back fires outta the air filter and the exsuast


Is the check engine light on ? What make , model an year vehicle an engine ? Could have a bad mass air flow sensor or map sensor which ever it has . How many miles on the vehicle , could have jumped timing , worn timing chain an gears ! Leaking fuel injectors ,washing down cylinder walls , fuel in oil ! Scan engine computer for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes ! Compression test cylinders !

any check engine light on? do you see the check engine light up when you first turn the key with all the other lights then it goes out when you start the car this is the cars system self test done by the computer if you do not see the check engine bulb light up it is burned out and I'm sure when replaced with a new bulb it will now be lit all the time because there has been a trouble code set involving the throttle position sensor or the Idle air control valve these both control the idle speed of the engine and your car rough idles and then the computer gets that info after 2min.and then it compensates the values to get it to run when the check engine light is on your system is in what is called open loop this is a program that all cars have that allows you to get to a service center for repairs there is also the possibility that some one turned the throttle body screw back to lower the idle and when it starts cold the computer learns there is an error and does it's own fix check this stuff out and post back good luck and understand I am not in front of your car and I'm trying to think without seeing it

Cylinder misfire


hi there i can help you with this, we will start from general to specific.

first check spark plugs "given"

second- check spark plug wires. " you are looking for burn marks indicating a short" .

third- check the throttle body position sensor- when this goes you car may start normal but then randomly start miss firing. this is a big problem on jeeps you check engine light may be activated.

forth- timing chain position sensor. this will cause your engine to miss fire as soon as you turn it on.

these 4 are major and minor problems that happen.

after these you can check to see if it is your air fuel ratio. this will have to do with the O2 sensors on your exhaust.

well without know what engine you have, and if there are any codes present its hard to say...could be many things...crank sensor, cam sensor, bad timing chain or belt, etc..etc...would need more information from you for a proper diagnosis

5.3 liter Chevy engine #1 Cylinder not firing at idle


My opinion...

Year? Miles?

There's no way I'd dive into a "HEAD GASKET"
diagnosis without pressure testing the cooling
system and (wet/dry) COMPRESSION testing
the whole engine...

Even if it is a "HEAD GASKET"... the entire engine
might be ready for a REFRESH... and tossing a new
Head gasket into a TIRED ENGINE not insubstantial
(a lot of wasted time & money)...

Come back with some compression numbers...

but don't bother with any of this if your engine oil has water in it.

(in my opinion)

1996 Blazer fuse #9(ECM Battery) keeps burning out and wont let the vehicle start


No ! Do you know how to test electrical circuits ? Use a DVOM - digital volt ohm meter ? Use a wiring diagram to pin point areas for testing in a wiring harness .
Fuel pump electrical circuit diagnosis no fuel pressure testing GM
The #9 fuse powers the ECM , fuel pump relay , fuel pump switch , engine oil pressure sensor .

#1 plug is miss-firing.I have replaced plug and wire,but keeps miss-firing only on#1 plug.have been told that coolant is possibly getting in #1cylinder.also I have been told #1 coil could be bad.witch is...


Could only be a few things. The coil #1, Fuel injector #1, Stuck intake or exhaust valve, or blown head gasket allowing coolant into cylinder #1. Use a spark tester to check the spark coming out of cylindr #1 if checks good then ohm test the injector when it is warm. Check other injectors to compare. Do a compression test on cylinder #1 and test other cylinders to compare. If cylinder is low compression suspect valves and or head gasket. If compression is low then het a leak down tester to test if a valve is broke or sticking. On your sable i would suspect injector or coil most likely.

My 2005 Grand Caravan has been sputtering or hesitating while in drive but stopped for the last two days. Now today it was doing this more frequently and did twice backa backfire noise and the engine light...


You can take the van to Autozone, they will test the check engine light to be sure. More than likely you have a bad plug wire or plug. If a plug is not firing right it will not burn the gas, hence your rough idle and back fire.
