1990 toyota pickup is running hot and when i shut

Try with the small stuff first. Replace the thermostat. Before you do that, you should flush and refill your system with just water after the flush process. The bottle of solution that you put into your radiator to flush it and clean it has instructions, follow those. Then let the car cool down and drain the system and refill it with fresh water only. Run this water for a bit and then do it once more. Once cooled back down , replace thermostat and replace the 50/50 mix of antifreeze and water.
Check engine oil level as well, low oil will overheat engines quickly.

If running ok at idle and not running hot, then I'd first examine my rad hoses very carefully, especially lower rad hose. If old and soft, easy to squeeze then replace it/them. Also replace rad cap as well. A soft hose may be collapsing when engine RPM increases, and restricting flow through engine. Next would be to observe water flow with engine running to be sure water pump is doing it's job. I assume you have cleaned and checked rad already. Note: if you run at highway speeds and it gets hot, try turning heater on high fan and hot setting to see if temperature gauge goes down at all, which would make me lean toward a faulty radiator.

Sounds like the thermostat needs replacing. Doesn't seem to be opening all the way. You can check it by putting it in a pot of hot water and watch to see if it opens all the way.

Temperture gauge at hot coolant is full

You may need to replace the thermostat or water pump, even flush out the system. Best thing to do is to flush out the system with radiator flush and follow the instructions and replace the oil antifreeze with new one with a 50/50 mix (water/antifreeze), if you not sure how to do that you can buy them premixed. Next is to replace the thermostat and radiator cap, that should fix the problem. The last thing would be the water pump is weak and would need to be replaced but lets start with the simple., The other thing to if it's only hot when your at a stop light then check the fuse and relays and wire harness to your radiator fan to make sure it's working. If you turn on your A/C that would over ride the temperature sensor and activate the fans so you know that is working, so if's running hot all the time even when your driving, replace the thermostat and coolant. Good luck.

My 1994 jeep grand cherokee laredo is running hot

could be a lot of different things. bad heater core, cracked, ripped, or soft hoses, crack in the radiator, bad thermostat, clogged lines. next time you run the vehicle, try to see if you can see under the hood to see where the steam is coming from. that will help you to see if there is a bad line or hose. then try to flush the radiator to see if there is a clog in the lines. then go to get a new thermostat if none of those. then you get into the more expensive items the heater core and the radiator.
