any noise from gearbox when you engaging clutch when engine is running? Check for oil as well. Firstly I suggest to drain oil out and check for particles in the oil, synchros could be damaged

If they are saying you need to pay for the repairs, find a good attorney, and he or she will go after them for attorney fees. Its a German car and they are known for electrical problems. Your problem lies within the Drivers light assembly, check the voltage voming into the headlight socket with multimeter and see if there are any voltage spikes or drops, alternating.

One of the power wire going from your ecm to a sensor or solenoid is shorting to ground. Get a wiring diagram and an ohm meter. disconnect the battery and start checking each wire measuring from the wire to ground. as you wiggle you will see the meter show 0 ohms when it is shorted. These are the hardest and most time consuming kind of electrical problems .good luck

I have the same car/year and problem. My turbo first acted up 50,000 km ago. I was told it was the waste gate linkage that was sticking. The Mechanic lubed it and work it back and worth with a air pressure device. Worked well for 40,000 km's but goes into limp mode almost every day.

I am told it could be waste gate actuator, air flow sensor, a vacuum leak, or one other thing. If you just bought this car it probably had the problem for a while and that's why the person who had it before dumped the car.

Worse case is the turbo with waste gate assembly attached come as one pice will have to be replaced for $1,500.00

turbo model? blown head gasket would be my guess, hard to start cold?

I am a volvo tech and your problem is fuel pressure ralated and i had same problem in 1995 850 turbo and the fuel pump was the problem and a used one is around 35.00

If it is the display for the gears flashing, this indicates a fault with the gearbox system, this is more common on multitronic gearbox's
