How to take timing chain cover off of 2.5 altima 2003

Have to remove variable valve timing cover, alternator, ps pump, tensioner, a/c compressor, motor mount and bracket, upper and lower oil pan, crankshaft pulley. I just replaced my timing chain- Not a job for a beginner, took a VERY long time. Recommended to support engine and remove subframe but not totally necessary.

How to timing the chain of nissan super saloon

you'll have to remove the serpentine belt via the tensioner pulley (usually taken off with a socket and a long breaker bar, make sure to push in the direction that would make the belt go lose then slip it off) then get a pulley puller (looks like a Y with another line going between the two upward lines, each area has an oval shaped hole in which to pun bolts to secure to the crank pulley, and one hold in the middle to feed the bolt that actually pulls the pulley off...have I said pull and pulley enough yet?) then there will be a cover underneath it that youll take off, there will be the timing chain. you should be able to remove one of the gears that go on the crankshaft or camshaft to get the chain off (its too tight and rigid to get off any other way) then slip the gear back on without a chain, and rotate both gears until two notches on the face of the gears line up. there should only be one notch on each gear. then take the gear off again, put on the new chain, bolt on the gear you took off to take off the old chain, bolt on the cover, press on the crankshaft pulley (requires specific tool) then put the serpentine belt back on (making sure it is fed through the accessories correctly such as the ac compressor, alternator, power steering pump, etc.) then use the tensioner pulley to fit the belt back on, pack up your tools, and call it a good days work.

My 2003 Altima 2.5s makes a humming type (vibration?)sound.

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima making a humming sound towards the front of the motor at idle in Park.

Not sure if alternator or compressor.

Not rattle from timing cover has to be something Nissan already denies.

This 2002 nissan 2400 pickup has had the timing chin replace by my mechanic. he swears up and down he did it correctly. After letting another mechanic so-call mechanic took the carburetor screws in and...

Hi, your diagram is below. Also threw in the timing marks. Not sure how hard it is to get the top cover off the timing chain as I have not worked on this engine. If you could get a peek at those timing marks you could verify valve timing. Let me know if you have more questions, and thanks for using FixYa.

Does a 1999 nissan altima gxe have a timing belt or a timing chain and if it does have a chain does it have to be replaced as often as a belt?

I think it has a chain. look where the timing chain/ belt should be. if there is a large plastic cover, it has a belt, it its a aluminum cover, it has a chain. there is no replacement interval on a chain.

Timing chain tensioner

I have a '94 Altima with 2.4 liter 4 cyl. engine. At around 150K the timing chain and tensioner were replaced - should solve your problem, too. If you're sure the chain is rattling you should really get it serviced now, not later. Also, if your car is running rough it could be more than just the chain and tensioner; it could be your ignition system, such as plugs, coil, distributor, etc. Bottom line is, your car needs to be checked out right away.

What will my car sound like, if the timing chain needs to be replaced? I have a 1997 Nissan Altima.

there will be a rattle the front of the engine. the end with all your pulleys and belts on. And it will be hard to work out if it's in the engine or the pulleys.

It is a common that a TICKING coming from the front of the engine is the timing chain guide.

This -->LINK<-- will help you alot.

'94 Nissan Altima rattles

Hi there,
you will need new upper timing chain and sprockets. Common problem on altima your year. Nissan has TSB for it. First they had us remove the upper timing chain guide, but after that, they had us replace all top chain components.
