My 2002 Ford Explorer wont crank!

    A Different mechanic checked and it is getting fire, and fuel pump is working properly. he thinks it may have jumped timing.. He doesnt sund too sure. any advice?

I'm assuming the coilpack got wet!! Check if there is any power to the coil before changing. If thats fine, replace the coil. If there is no power, check your electrical circuit for the coil. Hopefully this helps

    is the engine(spinning) cranking when you turn the ignition to start?? If not its best to have your electrical system inspected before testing the coil. Coil power test: Use a voltmeter to test the electrical connector on the coil. Unplug the coil's electrical connector and measure the voltage on the wires (make sure the key is set to ON or by cranking the motor).

    ok...Check the power to the coil. If there is no power, i suggest having a technician inspect the electrical system. Hopefully this helps

    Ya this is complicated.... I really don't know how the motor's internal timing components relate to your hose problem. It is possible for timing to jump, but an internal mechanical failure would have to take place, or extreme driving. Have an experienced electrical tech check out your electrical system, fuel injectors, cam and crank sensors (timing), MAF sensor, IAC valve etc. Unfortunately I'm unable to figure this problem out w/o inspecting the motor my self. Hopefully these tips help

check the crank positioning sensor, other than that there should be a unit that sends signal to the coils make sure everything is plugged in.

do you have smart lock? picture of a red hand in instrument panel? im sure they do. If so ****** in park hold key to start position & hit dash upwards & inwards on the left hand side of the steering colum if the problem is the smart lock module it will start. Common prob with fords & that is the cheap fix it will work every time you have the problem

you said it cranks then you said it wont turn over if it wont turn over you might have get the engine to hot and seized the engine please spesifiy if the engine turns over or not

2002 explorer has to crank for an extended period before finally starting and runs rough for a few seconds


check the fuel pressure regulator. If it is leaking fuel out of the nipple that the vacuum hose attaches to than it is bad.

How to replaced thermostat on a 2002 ford explorer


You're going to lose some coolant, so have a bucket or other container, and some fresh coolant ready. Follow the upper radiator hose to the point where it's connected to the engine. The hose is clamped to a metal housing (water inlet) which is bolted to the engine. Remove the bolts (not the hose) and lift the housing to expose the thermostat (may require a little prying with a screwdriver or similar tool). Note how the old thermostat is fitted (which end is up), lift it out of the engine, and then remove all traces of gasket from the housing and the engine. Install the new thermostat and gasket, replace the bolts, add coolant as necessary, and you're done.

Before you start the job though, check the condition of your upper and lower radiator hoses. If they show any signs of wear, fraying, or fatigue, you might as well replace them too.

Does your engine turn over?When you say your upper hose blew off To me it meant your engine ran hot.You put the hose back on and filled the truck with water.So you drove it to the shop?Did you have to tow the truck after this happened?I don' know what to say! It seems like you have a blown head gasket,or you blew your engine,I need more info to help you.

No it sounds like your water pump bearing has worn causing the leak.Change the water pump.
